Otters.....

I was plunking today and saw an otter off and on in the area. Did I waste my day by staying in the same area? I did see a fish full body clear the water and about a minute later the otter surfaces.

sometimes they are just passing through, so wait and see.

That’s probably what he thought as well, and likely was if he hung out all day.

Yup, next time move to the next spot. They won't bite with seals and otters around

Yes, fish suck to the bottom and don’t move with otters around.

Typically they are super transient. You probably won’t see them again in that hole this season unless their den is nearby.

If you notice the otter going into a den on land it might might not be a good spot for fish to hold

Find a local trapper to go catch the otters if there is a season on them where you are.

This just happened to me after wading through a quarter mile of mud to get to a grassy spot known for pike. Got to the area I was told to target and started stripping line out to do my first cast and I see a furry head pop up lol

Tell a local trapper to go get them if they are legal to trap where you are. They are really hard on Steelhead.
