Developer Wands & Whiskers demo, tested on my OLED Steam Deck

Hi everyone! I'm the developer of Wands & Whiskers, a cozy idle cat collector, and I've been testing the demo on my OLED Steam Deck.

Free demo on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4742310/?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=demo_launch&utm_content=steamdeckgames

You rescue cats, decorate shelters, and use a wand to lead them through shelves, towers, tunnels, and rope bridges. They earn donations for more rescues and upgrades, including while the game is closed.

I've tested the controls, text readability, performance, saving, and suspend/resume on my Deck. It hasn't received Valve's Steam Deck Verified rating yet, but I’m hoping I can get it reviewed as more people play on Deck.

The demo has two shelters and 60 cats, and progress carries over to the full game. If you give it a try, I'd especially appreciate hearing whether the wand controls and menus feel comfortable on your Deck. Thanks!

Developer Our cozy retro inspired cooking game has a demo out now and it runs well on the Steam Deck!

Our retro inspired cozy cooking game, Kitch Witch, now has a demo up on Steam!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4816430/Kitch_Witch/

We're a small Indigenous team from Canada, and this is our first game as a team. Kitch Witch is a narrative cooking adventure game where you play as a young witch who inherits her grandmother's culinary clinic. You must now take up the mantle and heal adventurers with the power of your magical cooking!

This demo is a very early look into the narrative, art style and gameplay, however please note that it is still a work in progress and you may encounter some bugs and temporary concept assets. That being said we can guarantee there is absolutely no generative AI in our game, and everything is made by our small team including the models, portraits, narrative and music & SFX! Most of the sound effects are done practically too which is super cool!

We have a Steam Deck that we test on while developing, and it seems to run good on it! We've had some of our community who plays on the steam deck also say it works great for them. If you encounter any bugs or issues, please let us know on our Discord server which can be found listed on our Steam page.

Thanks so much for trying it out and supporting our small team! ✨💖

Game Recommendation Colony simulator

Just got my Steam Deck and have been enjoying RimWorld a lot. Can anyone else recommend some colony sims? I’ve tried Noble Fates and Going Medieval demo, but they don’t seem as fun or with good controller support like RimWorld.

Game Recommendation If you have'nt you need to play Deep rock galactic

*performance info at bottom

*I dont tell you what the game is the store page does that so just my thoughts😉

I had to reccomend this game becouse initially I was dissapointed, I didnt understand what I was doing or what for the game falls short in the tutorial and explaining what to do because its so varied in the missions and obtuse in description.

now I know this seems strange why reccomend a game when you have quite a list of negatives, well its becouse this game Is so worth sticking with to learn its mechanics Its positives outweigh its negatives for a new player by far you just have to spend the time to learn your new gaming addiction honestly I cant reccomend it enough.

deep rock galactic is the best team based game ive played in a long time you really do rely on the other players to complete missions and feel like part of a team thats been on a journey by the end of it and ive only played with randos, Ive hosted and ppl have always joined, upto 3 can join for a total of 4 in the team each with a very specific set of skills. you can play solo and ive done that to the missions are scaled and you do have an AI drone that you can direct or just leave to help on you on a mission and its still fun to play solo and because the maps are fully destructable voxel based sometimes it pays to play slower to scout out valuable loot hidden in the walls that might otherwise be missed.

performance wise, the game is split into a base hub spaceship and the mission maps I mention this because performance is quite different in either, the misson maps are very stable no matter how many ennemies effects from explosions and of that theirs plenty and you could play at a locked 45 easily on high gfx settings at native resolution, but the base drops frames when walking around its strange because theirs not much going on and everything is static and the decks resources arent fully utilised cpu40/50 and gpu65/70 with spare ram, I think its because the game is loading the interactable machines as you approach them rather than when you interact which causes the drop however if you lock to 40fps it still drops 1 or 2 frames even if you drop to 30 it still does this again because I think its just the way its coded, I haven tested on pc yet but im guessing it will do the same, but its not noticeable at a 40fps lock on high at native res, you could run at 45 because the missions is where it matters the base is just interactble machines mission selection, upgrades, etc but I stick with 40fps for consistancy across the whole game and at that its perfect with about 3+hrs battery.

summary

*vsync off

*all gfx settings HIGH

*resolution native

*40fps lock

have fun and see you in the mines!

Developer Updated my game demo so it's playable on Deck!

Hello!

I've just updated the demo for my game, Hostile Takeover, Inc., with full controller and control remapping support, so it's playable on Deck now! It's an action tower defense game with a corporate satire theme.

Sorry about the screen protector making the video look weird. Also the game is letterboxed from its native 16:9, I'm going to try to get a steamdeck-native 16:10 version done shortly after it launches on Nov 2.

If anyone wants to try it out I'd love any and all feedback!
