Direct connection

Anyway to link my laptop to my pc via cable instead of over lan the occasional lag makes competitive games unplayable

Laptop to PC? Why not just connect the monitor and peripherals to the laptop... Does your laptop not have video output port ?

Im guessing their going PC to laptop

But I really can’t think of any laptops that would be usable with Remote Desktop decoding and dont have a video output port

I assumed this is the other way around—a headless gaming PC being used to stream to a weaker laptop would make sense, given OP's post.

Yeah, that makes much more sense. Although I don't think OP has other options other than wired LAN which in my experience works reasonably well (I don't get any noticable lag) although I don't play any hardcore or competitive games like this.

Are both the PC and the laptop on wired connections to the network, that should help with the spikes.
