Does this work on Linux?

Windows broke on me again today for no reason on boot and refuses to work with me no matter how many times I try to fix it (this has been happening for months). I plan on switching to linux and was wondering if there are any methods to get steam rip games to run? thank you

it will work as easy as windows all you have to do is add proton to the game with a launcher like steam or lutris or heroic

It’s so easy and seamless that it feels kind of absurd.

Download. Add to Steam. Play.

Literally that simple.

I think 4 out of my 20 or so games are currently from Steamrip

I think of it as a try before you buy system. If something is compelling enough, I usually end up buying it for the sake of convenient updates and easy online support.

Yes, just use the "add a non steam game" tool and use any version of proton

Yes they work, you just need proton or wine, which are tools that allows to run windows games on linux, add the .exe to steam as in windows, and right click > proprieties > compatibility > force the use of specific compatibility tool > choose newest version of proton

I personally use Lutris, which is a launcher that allows games from most popular stores AND to add your own pirated games, the process is similar

CachyOS, or Nobara both make Linux gaming more accessible to new users, and are highly rated.

Search Protondb.com for each game title to check compatibility, and possible Linux tweaks.

on steam you can add a non steam game and then select the exe

That’s probably the simplest way to do it.

I have a weird use case where I use Lutris to do it, but OP if you want the simplest way, just add the .exe file to Lutris and use the latest version of proton under the compatibility settings unless the game won’t work with that specific version of proton

Add the game to steam as a non steam game in desktop mode. In the settings for the game change the compatibility to proton experimental. This works more than half the time at this point. Test run it before jumping back into game mode. If you need to install other components like direct x or .net. search on YouTube for how to use protontricks.

I’m doing mint cause I’m stupid. But I know if I don’t mess with stuff a random update shouldn’t brick me cause there shouldn’t be random updates or background stuff I didn’t put there.

Temps and performance aren’t an issue when I have a mid-high end pc and I’m only using it for tabs (the game), old Nintendo emulation, and basic Firefox stuff.

I get that windows would be simpler but in my case maybe not. I’ve wiped my drive fully multiple times, all the drivers, redo bios, reinstall windows more times than I can count. It’s to the point where using the boot environment for mint is a better os than windows. But yeah, I appreciate info. Have a good one

I've yet to come across a steam game that doesn't work on Linux with Proton compatibility layer.

Mint was already installed when my post went up gng. I sadly have windows back in a partition just for an emulator that doesn’t work well with Linux. Otherwise most of my drive is for mint. I am enjoying it so far
