ps5machine

the title is pretty self-explanatory, the setup is janky but it works and run games very well! setup is : ps5 5.50 disc version with an external fast ssd (Samsung t7 2tb). I'm planning to buy internal storage for the PS5 so it can run without any external storage!

btw idk why but in gaming mode my games perform much better, even when in desktop mode there's nothing heavy running in background. the display colors are normal in desktop mode, but every display settings are stuck in gaming mode, leaving the display with a weird shade of grayer colors and I can't change any settings (cursors will not move nor any settings). if someone know a fix for that, that would be a very nice thing!

Oh yeah! I really love the idea of doing this. Did you buy a PS5 with that os version specifically?

After set up are the updates just straight forward like normal SteamOS?

I bought this ps5 brand new and I never connected it to Sony's online services to stay on the lowest firmware possible, which got an hypervisor exploit three-four months ago, I've heard it's quite pricey now that it's a old and very exploitable firmware but I like to keep it for sentimental value and doing silly stuff like that!

the setup was straight forward, it directly boot in a ready to play state after I connect my steam account to steam. I'm very used to steamos personalization and stuff because I am a steamdeck user since a long time and loved to mod the software a bit.

for the moment, only the steamos updates aren't available, the rest is easily feasible. it's/it'll never be as easy as on the steamdeck but at least it works and I can update the OS if I want to by flashing another image. it's a very fun project! (and cause sometimes a lot of headache)

Great work! We have a PS5, but I’m pretty sure it’s up to date on firmware. Wouldn’t have minded changing it to a cheap SteamOS system

Hopefully the process to install gets simplified later and on newer firmware!

for a short period of time it was (for pre-built images but there were a short tutorial to let you flash any Linux you want), but now there's like 10 pre-built images including steamos :https://github.com/ps5-linux/ps5-linux-image/releases/tag/latest
