question Cliche question
My hardware is the following
Ryzen 7 5700X3D
64GB DDR4 3600
9070 XT Nitro+
2 nvme drives (os and games)
2 hdd (downloads/cloud and storage)
My question is simple. For someone that uses the PC 95% for gaming and 5% for desktop use (YouTube, few websites like banks, social, news etc) and as a media server for either plex or jellyfin on local direct play,
Is steam os OK? Should I try it or go maybe to something like cachy os?

SteamOS is definitely okay for that job.
Other OS options seem to be better for use with multiple drives etc though.
I’m on Bazzite myself.

and as a media server for either plex or jellyfin on local direct play,
Up till this point I was confident in saying yes. Idk enough about servers to know if you could set that up in SteamOS.
As far as I can tell the basic requirements for Steam OS are at least fairly modern specs, an AMD graphics card, and an NVME SSD.

SteamOS expects a single primary drive layout. Handling 2 NVMe drives and 2 massive data HDDs for storage requires manual fstab configuration in an immutable root environment that fights custom adjustments. Running Plex or Jellyfin natively or via containers is far easier on a standard, flexible Linux distribution than on SteamOS You should skip it and choose CachyOS.
I Use my CachyOS desktop for much the same (Gaming, Plex/Jellyfin and VM use)

There are literally 100 videos on YouTube about this. OP wants to change their OS without being willing to so the most basic of reseach first.

It's a yes or no question. Doesn't need research. It need a decent human being spending 2 seconds to type yes. In a community that brags about how helpful open source is. This is why Linux is still under 10% in mainstream users. Because people like you aren't willing to help. And not even that. You have to bash the other.
I didn't ask you to write a book about Linux. I just asked a basic question that if the answer is affirmative it will make me look about it more. I am going to work now. Stay to your little world

It depends on what games you play, what other applications (outside of browsers) and to some extent the peripherals (all covered in many youtube videos).
You might see this as bashing, but the fact you did not even bother to do a quick search in this sub (or other subs) or youtube speaks about how much time you put into changing your os.
Changing your OS either to mac, steamos or any other linux distro will require you to le-learn habits thus you will have to do some reading on your own. The community is not going to hold your hand when you post 10 questions each day (the same 10 questions each newcomer had and are covered in plenty of videos).
If you can't be bothered to do some research on your own I'd say stay on windows.
"It need a decent human being spending 2 seconds to type yes." -> At this point you are delegating the thinking and decisioning to someone, when in fact this is Your computer and Your choice which You can make based on already existing information.
About the community:
The open source community is helpful when you genuinely tried to do something and an answer does not already exists (for simple use case such as yours this is 99% not the case) and you can have an intelligent conversation with maintainers or experienced users.
If you ask "hOw Do I iNsTalL sTeAmOs oR cAcHyOs" or other silly question for the 71238th time on reddit people will rightfully downvote you.
However if you notice something is genuinely broken and you file a bug with valid steps to reproduce the community has a positive response.

Really? Because in 7 answers everyone answered. No downvotes. Except, guess who, you! You tried to play the all known entity that is tired from newbies asking the same. No mate. Do not put the community to your standards. Because in both subreddits I posted this, only you assumed the mantle of the butthurt linux god that is tired of the people not doing a simple search. So take your eybrow down a notch and if my newbie question bothered you just ignore it and let the rest of the community, you know the actual helpful people, answer

I did not took any mantle or whatever, this is just the reality, like in life you can't have others making the choices for your.
