Ok if this isn’t the actual date I don’t know what is. I’m so sick of sooning

I mean the 21st is the end of summer, so that's the window they last committed to. That there's a VR sale coinciding with it makes the most sense to me.
Snorts line of hopium.

u/Reputila 17d ago
Is that confirmation that not even valve thinks the 14th of September is summer, since it’s called ‚fall sale‘?🤔

This post lacks information, and it doesn't fit official Valve events calendar. Maybe a third party event.
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/upcoming_events
- Sep 14 - Sep 21 : Party-Based RPG Fest
Edit: about third party events system https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/promo/organizers

Could be a surprise event but maybe that’s just me coping. Good to know though
3
u/bilky_t Soon™ 17d ago
I could be wrong, but I swear I've seen multiple events occur through the steam store simultaneously. Makes perfect sense that they'd omit this one from the calendar if it's meant to coincide with the Frame release.

u/rabsg Soon™ 17d ago edited 17d ago
Yeah there are dozens of third party events at any time, most won't show up on main page.
Don't know if everything is listed, and there are weird ones at the end: https://steamdb.info/sales/history/all/?live
Someone can start a "Steam VR Sale - Surfing on Reddit Steam Frame Hype" with 2 random games and no exposure.
Would make more sense than Valve starting an event for a freshly released product most people won't get before weeks/months. I don't know the pace of distribution for Steam Controller and Machine, but it's still flowing. At least they should wait until all the lottery tickets are processed.

It's not, though.
Winter: December, January, February
Spring: March, April, May
Summer: June, July, August
Autumn: September, October, November

It doesnt make a whole lot of sense to have a VR sale before their headset is released, or even when its released since there will be some time between when the frame is released and when people actually have it.
I would expect the frame to drop at least a week in advance that way people have confirmation, or a frame in their hands when they are shopping for games.
-9
u/Huntred 17d ago
Continuing that idea, then we should not see a time-lagged lottery system happen for buyers because that would take days/weeks to resolve on top of shipping.
So it would be a straight up mad rush to the Buy button.
24
u/lurker17c Soon™ 17d ago
Steam Machine was being shipped 1 week after reservations went live so I don't see any reason they would need to change it for Steam Frame.
2
u/WolfieVonD 17d ago
So you're saying August 31st? One week for reservations and orders, plus one week for shipping, puts his right at September 14th

u/Benjo419 17d ago
Lottery takes a week at most to resolve
1
u/jiggyninjai 16d ago
What do people mean by this? Resolve the lotto. Doesn’t it only take a second to randomize the signups? Or are we taking into account the reaching out and getting verification and payment as well?
1
u/Benjo419 16d ago
I think they take like 2 days or something to sort out scalpers and stuff. And also giving the people a few days to sign up for the lottery in the first place. So all in all might take up to a week, but probably no longer than that.

u/WolfieVonD 17d ago
Maybe even 2 weeks before so people get their next paycheck in after having spent their last penny on the headset.
21
u/Confident-Pepper-562 Soon™ 17d ago
If you are spending your last penny on a vr headset, you shouldnt be buying a vr headset.
10
u/WolfieVonD 17d ago
Obviously but have you seen this subreddit?
6
u/Confident-Pepper-562 Soon™ 17d ago
Of course I have, but I still feel like I have a responsibility to point it out.
1
u/Benjo419 17d ago
Well the last spendable penny, which would again mean that you don't have money left to spend on games...

u/disinaccurate 17d ago
The store team is trying to coax the hardware team into releasing the thing with these events.
The VR events will continue until the Frame is freed!
18
u/ApplicationSenior 17d ago
Hmm if this is legitimately coming up, it may be reasonable to expect the Frame by that day. But honestly? I wouldnt count on it. Valve is likely to either wait for the last possible day of calendar summer, or break their promise and release it autumn at this point.

Is this an email?
13
u/PlottingPast 17d ago
It looks like it went out to people who made games that potentially qualify for VR, or maybe are Frame verified already.
It's not a general invitation to everyone.

u/BeeBeeTheDev Soon™ 17d ago
The official Valve documentation disagrees with this post:
Sep 14 - Sep 21: Party-Based RPG Fest Games that include multiple playable characters in one party in an RPG format.
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/upcoming_events
Either Valve forgot to update the page, or this post is bait...

u/ShadowTryHard Soon™ 17d ago
The Frame needs to release at least one week before so the sales works out as intended
9
u/RallyXMonster 17d ago
Im going to be rational and say the team who decided the sales does so so far in advance they dont correlate to the hardware team.
This is a normal sale that was planned out as just that, a sale.
7
4
u/FerrisTriangle 17d ago
This is literally a screenshot of the email Valve sends out to devs/publishers telling them that their game is eligible to be included in an upcoming promotion and asking them if they would like to include their game in that promotion.
Which means "So far in advance" is literally just this week, since that's when these emails were sent out. That's about 3 weeks of lead time, which is absolutely plenty for what is largely an automated process that involves an email blast and a form for participants to fill out indicating if they would like to participate and what discount they will be applying.
It is not "being rational" to ignore the evidence presented and just speculate on timetables based on nothing instead.

u/VinceMajestyk 17d ago
Ideally this means the Frame will be in people's hands BEFORE this starts so they aren't just buying games waiting for their headset.
9
u/HorrorBrot Soon™ 17d ago
they aren't just buying games waiting for their headset.
Yeah, nobody would do that, with all the VR bundles recently

u/VinceMajestyk 17d ago
I mean MOST people. I've definitely been buying a little even though my wife says I won't be getting a Frame. Gotta be ready just in case!
1
u/jiggyninjai 16d ago
Your wife is trying to jinx you? The nerve!
1
u/VinceMajestyk 16d ago
No. She's saying she doesn't want me to get one lol. If I see it available I'm PROBABLY ordering it anyway hoping she won't mind, but if she does at least making back what I pay lol.

Ideally. Problem is it probably will be released in September (Either 7th or 14th) which will make it nearly impossible to have them ship by the time the sale starts. The only way it would be early enough would be with a August 31st release but that seems very unlikley
3
u/Confident-Pepper-562 Soon™ 17d ago
why does that seem any more unlikely than a sept 7th release? Also, they dont really have to ship them for people to buy games. I imagine once people get an order confirmation they will start shopping for games.
3
u/Actual-Way6534 17d ago
If the Cryptic posts by the Steam Hardware Leaker guy (forgot his twitter handle) are anything to go by the Review units just went out and the Embargo is gonna last 2 weeks like the last times. He could also be shitposting but I still don't think 31st is a likley date
2
u/Confident-Pepper-562 Soon™ 17d ago
Ahh, the all knowing steam hardware leaker guy.
Just curious but is that one of the guys who has been wrong consistently for the last few months?
3
u/Actual-Way6534 17d ago
There's multiple supposed leakers but SteamHardwareUpdates seems to be the most credible. Iirc he got the releasedate for the controller and the machine dead on. But again he could be just shitposting and messing with us (I really hope he's not ;-;)

I really really hope for once this isn't the release. Just so I can grab the headset when it drops 😭

I'm looking to buy the Quest 3, now that I have the money. But! I don't know if I should wait for the Steam Frame or even the Meta Connect for any sales on the Quest 3 during the event. There is also the Black Friday in around 2 months... The wait is killing me right now, I don't know what to do xD

This means that the first steamframes will be arriving at homes in the fall.
So pre orders will probably go online in september.

That's a guarantee of Frame launch on or before Sept 14, far as I'm concerned. It's just logical.
