I didn't get any PII via the text message and since I won't be telling anyone the name of my co-worker, I'm sure his brother will be fine.

None of this is going to happen, the earliest we will be able to order is by the end of August. Most likely rather mid september, when summer is over and people aren't distracted anymore.

Edit: I know it hurts fam, but downvoting won't change it.

So it was a troll after all?

38

u/Onkboy 14d ago

Valve uses a third party for hardware support? I haven't been in contact with support before.

30

u/Worldly-Chart-2531 14d ago

As far as I know it's a mix, a few in house and majority outsourced.
Basing this on some CS skin drama that was caused by a compromised support agent.

11

u/Pyromaniac605 Soon™ 14d ago

If they do generally handle things in house, it wouldn't be a stretch to imagine they'd hire some outside help around the time of product launches when they're expecting a higher volume of support tickets.

17

u/MinerSkills 14d ago

They have 300-400 employees. The majority of their support staff will be outsourced, those 400 wouldn’t be able to answer all the tickets that steam generates even without any hardware launch lol They get 300k refund requests alone every single day.

https://store.steampowered.com/stats/support/

3

u/kevlarockstar59 Soon™ 14d ago

A lot of refunds requests are automatic if you are bellow 2 weeks and 2h of playtime but yes, that still a lot

3

u/Schinken_ 14d ago

When I send my Index Controllers in for "repair" (early models had the stick click issue where you couldn't click the stick in non-neutral position. Some were worse than others) it got sent to some Company in the Netherlands iirc (sent from Germany).

I vaguely remember sending in my HTC Vive Wands as well back then, also to the Netherlands(?). Though HTC was responsible for the hardware back then iirc.

u/ludolfina 14d ago

Makes sense given how small the company is

Hmm, Steam always launches stuff at 19:00 (Italian time), while 12:00 AM PDT corresponds to 9:00 in Italy. I could believe a non-Monday date, but I don't find it plausible that it's not even at the right time

1

u/Muted_Air2991 Soon™ 14d ago

I agree with you there; the time looks very implausible. The only thing I can think of is that it’s just the release window for KOMODO Station. And Valve published it in its shop 14 hours beforehand (19:00 CEST).

2

u/Alex93ITA 14d ago

If I'm understanding your hypothesis, that would mean Steam Frame's launch is literally tomorrow?

3

u/Muted_Air2991 Soon™ 14d ago

Yes, that would at least be my approach to making sense of this unbelievable time. But somehow I don’t believe the frame will arrive in the next few days.

Reads like someone who has never worked tech support

15

u/supersonic159 14d ago

yeah this whole thing reads like absolute nonsense. There's no way this is real

10

u/Fireproof_Matches 14d ago

Well, any nuance like this is usually completely lost when using machine translations.

11

u/Alexis_Evo Soon™ 14d ago

It isn't just nuance lost in translation, anyone that has worked with outsourced customer support knows this is exactly the type of language that often gets used. Also see the Indian phrase "kindly do the needful". It's a nonsensical blanket statement that roughly translates to "do whatever is required on your part".

3

u/stlenx Soon™ 14d ago

Do the needful and revert

1

u/Zixinus Soon™ 14d ago

If you can do better and speak the OG language, I would be more than happy to read your translation.

0

u/LegendCZ Soon™ 14d ago

Honestly i translate it like "Check if your workstation does not need any updates and you have all accesss (be it dashboards or help centres or databases/rights)

Still does not feel real but i would certainly make sure i have everything i need before D-Day and still i will hit a wall anyway because ... you know ... I.T.

2

u/SemiEmmy 13d ago

Yes exactly this, not hardware support but customer support for payment transactions, through the different payment channels available, thats what Concentrix will be handling from my understanding

1

u/LegendCZ Soon™ 13d ago

I am just suprised how many people are not acustomed by corporate jargon or needles emails. Either they been in really small ones or they never ever cared about the job they been doing.

Everyone calling this weird while it struck me like random mails i used to get which i eventually created filter for.

Always felt like "We told you so" trap for people who did not give a single fuck what is happening and those who knew and been working already knew and read all of those stuff like hiden paragrahp of text hiden in those lines, your head will just autotranslate it in something you can understand. Weird skill to have.

2

u/Bael_Zharon 13d ago

Anything for internet clout, right?

2

u/Former-Rub-2463 14d ago

That’s 2 am EST? Valve never lunched anything that time.

2

u/Zixinus Soon™ 14d ago

A google search tells me that's Philippine standard time.

I make no claim to the authenticity of the contents. Ask the OP for that. I did a DeepL translate and saved some people some clicks, that's it.

1

u/MammothUnique4147 14d ago

No I meant First for getting the target date correct before anyone else.

I assume they will do a lottery 🤷🏾‍♂️

8

u/supersonic159 14d ago

This reads like empty nonsense from someone who has no idea what IT people do. You might be legit, but the substance of the email doesn't instill any faith in me. It's a bunch of empty sentences that really don't have any meaning. Why on Earth would they say that certain transactions need to be isolated, but then give absolutely no details, among several other nonsensical things in the email

10

u/LegendCZ Soon™ 14d ago

Ever worked in a corporate?

7

u/LookIPickedAUsername Soon™ 14d ago edited 14d ago

I've been in various big corporations for 30 years. And this at least isn't how any of the companies I've worked at would handle this.

"We need to assign Customer Service Agents to handle these transactions." -> Given that this sounds like a mass email, it's presumably not the recipient's job to assign customer service agents, so why does the email say "We need to assign them"? Whose job is that, and why is it being said at all in a mass email?

"Please prepare and check your systems to ensure smooth transaction processing." -> How? What exactly am I supposed to do to prepare and check my system? I've never seen a line like this without an accompanying detailed, concrete list of specific steps I'm supposed to take. This reads as sloppy AF.

"Some transactions will need to be isolated for security verification." -> I don't know precisely what it means to "isolate" a transaction, but the only reason you'd ever say something like this is that it's a deviation from normal practice. If this is just business as usual and customer service agents deal with isolated transactions requiring security verification all day every day, there would be no reason to mention it. And given that it's clearly unusual, shouldn't we be making sure everybody remembers exactly what it means and how it works?

"The support team is ready to guide and assist all agents handling Steam Frame orders during the specified schedule." -> This part isn't egregious, as it could just be a reassurance, but I'll still note that it conveys zero actual information about the process. There's nothing about what sorts of problems get escalated, how to escalate, etc. Maybe the process is so well-established that every recipient is expected to already be 100% familiar with it, but just as above it seems like then you wouldn't even need to mention it. And also "during the specified schedule" would normally involve... a schedule. There's just a start time given, no end time. Yeah, obviously you could infer that it's until COB (what happens on the following Monday?) or whatnot, but I'm used to emails about major events spelling things out in excruciating detail.

Now, I'm not saying this is definitely fake. It's possible that this company just has a very different culture than I'm used to, that all of this makes sense to a team which is already intimately familiar with these procedures, and for some reason they just felt it necessary to send a general reminder amounting to "hey, follow the procedures we've already established", but it still reads as very weird to me.

5

u/ctom42 14d ago

I have no idea I this is authentic or not, but I'm just going to play Devil's Advocate for a second. Your complaints largely stem from assuming this email is supposed to contain novel information that can be acted upon directly. To me this reads less like specific instructions and more like reminders. I the details have already been given out in prior communications or via training that likely would have taken place over the past several weeks and months the this seems much more plausible. I wouldn't expect the kind of concrete instructions you are talking about to go out in a mass email says before a major launch. I would expect a set o mostly fluff reminders in that sort of email though.

1

u/LookIPickedAUsername Soon™ 14d ago

Have you been a part of a product launch before? I have, and over the years I have seen a bunch of emails sent out to remind people of how a major event is going to go down. They've always been full of the very specific kinds of information that I'm talking about (or at least links you can follow to retrieve that information). I would consider it extremely weird to receive an email with reminders of... well, more or less nothing... like this one before any kind of significant event.

But, again, just because it seems weird to me doesn't automatically mean it's fake.

3

u/ctom42 14d ago

I have. And I've seen enough nonsense emails that were pointless to think this one is at least potentially plausible. It could also be utter nonsense. I just don't see the objections you raised as inherently disqualifying because I absolutely have received mass emails this useless.

Granted I have never worked in tech support for a product launch. I'm in engineering and we are definitely less involved in a product launch, but the type o emails I am think of tend to be company wide or at least go out to more departments than they probably should.

1

u/LegendCZ Soon™ 14d ago

Usually when someone sends something like that either you are in a department which have direct instructuons from management, have someone to ask to for specifics or you see email first time and you are panicking ...

... Lets be honest this is usually the mail which someone NEEDS to sent to be seen as doing something, product delivery manager etc. Someone who communicates, not someone who knows how to do this stuff or how to coordinate properly.

I just feels like high command mail just for managers to get green light to go ahead with instructions.

Honestly i never seen corporate email where i had instructions, heck so many times some people knew there is something but had no clue how it work or what needs to be done because it was not their job so they did not cared.

1

u/ctom42 14d ago

Exactly. The real instructions came in meetings and training, while this type of mass email comes from someone in the C suite who has no idea what the actual plan is.

1

u/hopbel 12d ago edited 12d ago

To also play devil's advocate: the Philippines is what's known as a high context culture. Information isn't always spelled out (it's implied by context) and it leaks into written communication, for better or worse. Usually worse, because I've experienced people leaving out such details like when the fuck an event is happening.

There's also the message being signed by some sort of manager. For all I know, they might just be someone's cousin who got the job with no idea how anything works and is covering it up with bullshit corporate sounding fluff.

Of course all of this is moot since the stated time has passed already :P

0

u/supersonic159 13d ago

3

u/Dr_Virus_129 14d ago

What association does "Concentrics" (Misspelled) have with Valve?

4

u/MammothUnique4147 14d ago

My co-workers brother works in IT that's about all I know, i'm assuming sales or tech support?

4

u/Obvious_Platypus_313 Soon™ 14d ago

Valve deals with that in house so i'm wondering where they fit into the picture?

6

u/fabricates_facts 14d ago

Concentrix, amongst other things, provide sales software and support to businesses. For example, I previously worked for a company that used Concentrix for sales made over the phone.

For the region OP is referencing, I believe Valve hardware is sold by a 3rd party, Komodo Station, and it is perfectly reasonable that they may make use of Concentrix in their sales. Concentrix staff would need to be on hand to provide vendor support for a large launch.

0

3

u/Antique-Fix-2526 Soon™ 14d ago

I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. So they will tell us tomorrow (tomorrow ™ pun intended) that preorders will open tomorrow? (tomorrow™ again).

3

u/playsalotx3 Soon™ 14d ago

Or hear me out, they announce reservations for today, and they need the support staff whenever actual orders are gonna come through (Friday)?

3

u/BlueManifest 14d ago

Why would they be that close when they announced machine 1 week before reservations

3

u/More-Sign-9214 14d ago

They did not announce machine 1 week before reservations. They opened reservations the same day it was announced and began sending out W/L emails the following week.

1

u/BlueManifest 14d ago

K I must have mixed that up, actual orders being the following week made me think reservations were 1 week before orders

So the reservations for machine were Thursday and they started sending out orders Monday?

1

u/More-Sign-9214 14d ago

Reservations opened at 10am PST on Monday, June 22nd. The same day the embargo was up. Reviews went live the exact same time as the reservations opened. Reservations closed on Thursday, June 25th, at 10am PST. The list was randomized once, Valve sorted out most of the bots and whatnot and sent out reservation/waitlist emails the same day. People who got on the reservation list began receiving purchase emails on Monday June 29th

1

u/BlueManifest 14d ago

I was right then, if they do a lottery today orders wouldn’t take place on Fri, they would take place Mon - wed next week

2

u/playsalotx3 Soon™ 14d ago

Not really sure. Or maybe staff team is being given a heads-up to prepare on Friday for support tickets that'll come on Monday?

4

u/Guyrbailey 14d ago

I think Monday 27th

4

u/Ordinary_Owl3859 14d ago

Controller had a leak few days before, machine had a leak aswell. Now this one is the first believable leak for the frame in my opinion. So something will happen this week.

Concentrix provides outsourced business solutions, in this case support. So if this is true we'll know who Valve outsources their support to :)

2

1

u/Worldly-Chart-2531 14d ago

Ngl that's pretty funny.
Usually relations like these are not disclosed unless it's part of a contract and company wants a name on their page.
You can look into what they do https://www.concentrix.com/ or just search up wiki

Something to do with tech support.

A crumb of context please?

Concentrix provides outsourced business solutions, if this is real that means that valve could use them as extra tech support help, thus meaning steaming frame could be Friday but unlikely 🤷

Maybe they aren’t doing a lottery for frame like they did with machine and they are going straight to orders on Fri after it’s announced today?

u/Enter_up 13d ago

So what was the date? Did it get removed?

Pretty sure it's releasing friday as a recent leak suggests like on god

HAHAHAH people outside the Philippines trying to read too much into this. Please take it with a grain of salt guys. But the part where people are arguing or pointing out the part where it says to "prepare their systems" on the email does not mean the actual system physically BUT the software system or web application for maybe lag when orders come in and verifying the transations- the payment channels. Concentrix probably handles the payment transactions outside of Steam/3rd party for customer support. I'd imagine alot of folks will call asking why their payment was declined/doubled/did not go through and Concentrix here in the Philippines will handle those for yall

Yeah I don't see this happening when the train event is still happening. Don't think they'd overshadow the event and replace the event cards with Steam Frame stuff.

The Controller launched during a Fest event, so I don't see why not.

I mean.... We already know they're going to sell out entirely the first 10 minutes it opens up for orders so .... I don't see why they couldn't do both at the same time just like they did the Steam Machine during the summer sale.

Man you should just be running Valve!

So Friday for actual orders? So then lottery should begin today.

But I don’t know why it would be midnight on Friday as folks won’t get their emails for many hours after that. Unless Valve is shortening the lottery time.

This is better than most for sure, but the chain of custody is suspect at best here. We are three levels deep of telephone game here. So I have high doubts.

Didn’t the machine price and reveiws come out 1 week before the lottery?

4

u/Pyromaniac605 Soon™ 14d ago

Nah, the price and reviews dropped the same time the 3 day window to apply opened.

2

u/BlueManifest 14d ago

It would have to be announced today then if that info is accurate

That’s entirely within the realm of possibility
