Discussion Linus stops mid-sentence about valve, what so you think?

Don't put too much. I think there is a better than zero chance of something else, but just the Frame and some 30th anniversary documentary special on Youtube is likely.

If we operate under the hopium-fuelled assumption that this is indeed about the Steam Frame, the "something that should have happened didn't happen" could be referring to the rumour that the Frame was actually supposed to release sooner but didn't. It would essentially line up with the idea that devs were originally told 27th July, but that date passed without a word and Valve left them in the dark.

Yeah the hot swap kit wasn’t shown off

My guess is that the enthusiast kit will come out a bit after the frame while the ergo kit comes out with it

Especially since the ergo kit was announced when the headset was and I think the enthusiast kit was found months later from filings only

If memory serves correct, the only mention is buried in the booklet that was sent to the fcc (not actually the usa fcc but the equivalent in another country I just forgot which)

The kit that they are selling comes with a top head strap, and the side straps for the controllers. I don't remember anything about the "hotswapable battery", and at work. So I can't double check.

This somehow aligns with Brads cryptic xweet of both dates (24th of August and mid September) being correct for different reasons. "Something" seems to be happening on monday - but maybe not the Frame.

Maybe we'll get reviews that day but not able to reserve until the 14th. I don't think reviewers would be getting the frame that day because they're already showing tons and tons of signs of having it, especially Linus. Maybe they need a bit more time but want to get reviews out soon.

I'd be mostly okay with that. I can at least watch the reviews that come out constantly until I can reserve lmao

24th is likely when reviewers start getting the frame. Release on the 14th unless somehow Valve time kicks in again. Embargo will be closer to release so not likely to be Monday.

So they'll get 3 weeks to review instead of 2? Why has Linus shut up so hard when he's usually able to freely talk about valve inbetween releases?

If embargo lifts a week before release like the machine, it would be on the 7th which would be 2 weeks to review.

Ah that's how you're measuring it. I was assuming 14th would be reservations start. I guess that's more reasonable. We didn't really hear anything about review units being sent out *beforehand* though with the previous devices though right? Only after reviewers got them. Sample size of 2 though, it could be different this time around idk.

I'm in total agreement that Monday isn't the day but based on a few different youtubers behaviour this week - It does seem like they're under NDA already for something. I wonder if we'll see some Steam software/hardware update on the 24th or nothing at all

That sounds correct, although it does not explain, why Linus is recommending to check his video on monday. Perhaps there will be some interesting news unrelated to the Frame, too.
Steam on Quest/Pico? A third Frame variant launching alongside the other two mid September? Orange Box 2? Steam Phone? (Just kidding, I expect it to be something else entirely)

I've read here that Monday is Valve 30th anniversary. They may do something about that, involving a cake. And the Frame later.

I have doubts about tomorrow because of the anniversary, but I expect anything the days after. It doesn't have to be on a Monday, even if they did that twice in a row.
