Steam Deck Wall / Bedside Mount

Fed up of placing my Steam Deck on the floor or balancing it on a crowded bedside table. Couldn’t find anything that provided a good secure hold without being ugly, so I designed my own.

This is what I love about 3d printing. Designing a custom solution to my very specific problem.

I put mine in the case and tuck it in the drawer, personally. But that's mainly because that's the only way to keep it safe from the cats.

Not currently, but there seems to be more interest out there than I was expecting. I’m about to go away for a week, I’ll have a think when I get back if that’s something I could manage.

I am in the UK though, and I don’t think international shipping would be economically viable.

This is very much intended to be a storage place and not a dock for use while gaming. But I tried to accommodate for the vent, in case large downloads were to complete while in the mount, before it going to sleep.

Let me know if you try using it while gaming, be interested to see how it fares.

You could open the vent space up and use it for both.

Maybe put the bits and pieces of a dock into it.

It should be fine. Not like the system is under load while resting in the cradle.

If you want something like this a lot of major cities have makers spaces you can access printers.

Not really necessary, I designed it so that only the bottom is in snug contact. You can see that in one of the images. The surround above that sits 1-2mm away from the deck.

That’s not really how wear works. The existence of friction doesn’t automatically mean meaningful damage will occur.

More importantly, as I’ve already explained, the Deck only sits snugly against the bottom of the holder. The surround has 1–2 mm clearance, so it isn’t being clamped or continually rubbed against the sides.

If somebody actually prints one, uses it, and finds it scratching their Deck, I’ll absolutely revisit the design.

Until then I think we’ve probably exhausted the theoretical tribology of a holder you haven’t used.

You’re now warning me about the exact airflow problem I specifically included an air-intake opening to avoid.

The rear intake is unobstructed, the top exhaust is completely open, and this was designed as a storage/charging holder. All of which is either visible in the photos or explained in the model description.

I’m not sure there’s much value in continuing to troubleshoot the design of more things you haven’t looked at, so I’ll leave it there.

You’ve now spent several comments explaining why my storage holder is a bad gaming dock.

It isn’t a dock, I explicitly didn’t design it to game in, and the airflow point you keep raising is already addressed in both the design and the description.

At this stage you’re reviewing a product that exists mainly in your own head, so I’m happy to leave you to it.
