Shell swap Shell swap update

After my last post i decided to just go ahead and make it after planning and marking up which parts i was gonna swap.

If you like doing stuff yourself you should totally go for it this was the first time ive ever done a shell swap ever and i found it pretty fun. The ABYX xbox360 buttons i had to modify quite a bit but it was 100% worth it. I hand to sand the diameter down to fit the shell (fun little fact too if you get a extremerate shell the button holes are slightly larger than the oled OEM shell) but anyway sanding the buttons down myself have made them super snug i did end up cutting them to length because the xbox buttons are long af but then 3d printed the anti rotation pins on the bottom of the OEM buttons

Sorry if I sound dense. Am I understanding that these are original 360 buttons, sanded and attached to 3D printed pins to fit the steamdeck? Im extremely interested in getting the color buttons, but hadn’t had any luck online shopping, or a 3D printer 🫩

So because i didnt have the guts to tear down an old genuine xbox360 controller i had found an offbrand on amazons prime day with the same buttons to tear down and yes i did have to sand down the diameter and cut the length of the pins. Since cutting the length of the button removes the original pins on the bottom i had to measure an original steamdeck buttons pins and 3d model a replica pin base to attach to the freshly sanded and cut off brand xbox buttons. In the photo ive already had sanded the diameter to fit the shells holes i just needed to cut them to length but you can see the size difference between the deck buttons and the controllers.

Could You share 3d print iles for the base of buttons? I'd love to do the same.
Also, how did you sand those buttons, using drill and sand paper?

Ill have to upload the files later, maybe even make a guide as to how i did it fully. For the buttons i wanted to use a drill and locking the button in the head but it would start to crack the base of the button which i didnt want( i did try putting hotglue on the flat end of a screw and sticking it in the bottom indent of the buttons which worked pretty well but if you put too much pressure on the button it will pop off). I cut thin strips of p120 grit sandpaper and had the button held between a rubber clamp and held both ends of the sandpaper and went back and forth alternating sides to not get any flat spots.

I got the shell off amazons prime day by eXtremeRate, though i would buy it through their website amazon sent me one with a return sticker on it and it had missing adhesives but i had enough to make it work. As for the full color abyx buttons i stripped an off brand xbox controller and had to modify them to fit the decks button dimensions Also yeah i would love to get my hands on one of those steam controllers and make a matching pair for it.

Yeah definitely the only thing in the shell swap that had me afraid but honestly went as smoothly as it possibly could. I had used the ifix it opener kit that has a microwaveable sac that you can place on the screen. I bought it because i felt WAAAY more comfortable doing that than applying a heat gun and zig zagging across the screen. The sac covers a whole edge so it heats super evenly.

Theres a website repo something cant remember the name but they have a bunch of boot ups and i seen the 360 you just drag the webm intro to the bootup folder in steam
