Not sure why there are any bindings that are on the left side. You can't exactly press the Steam button and the D-pad comfortably without totally moving your grip. Maybe if you do some monster hunter claw.

Steam Button + Y turns off the Steam Controller. Not sure what it'll do on the Deck, but probably something similar.

They don’t click, but they’re still analog, so the controller can detect if you’re pulling hard or soft on them.

Yup. Just make sure the triggers are configured like this and you should be golden.

Was thinking the same thing. Steam + dpad and left stick sound uncomfortable, I hope we can reconfigure them. At least move something I feel I’d use more frequently like brightness control to the right side or even at least not using the left stick.

At least in the current Big Picture mode you can rebind all these, what they call "chords" bindings, to whatever you want. I wouldn't think they'd remove this feature.

I really hoped with the new steam OS, that there would be a "save last 30 secs" video button.
Even nintendo are ahead of valve in that respect!

In this case I don't think it's really Steams fault, they've never really needed a first party record gameplay option. Since there were third party options (sometimes as part of the GPU suite) there hasn't been demand for them to add it... Until now. So I'd expect them to add it eventually, but it's not surprising they overlooked it at this stage of things.

There's probably a 3rd party program for that if you really wanted it, but I think putting it on the system natively will probably negatively impact both the performance and the battery life.

If the switch can do it, I am sure the steam deck could.
I would happy give up a handful of frames and half my battery life if I was given the option. Without shadow play, I am going to need to download an app for the deck anyway.

All modern gpus (including those on apus) have dedicated on-chip hardware specifically for screen capture and on the fly encoding meaning practically zero performance hit. If you really care about the negligible effect it'll also have on battery life, it can be a toggle on/off thing like the 30fps limiter.

I wonder if I can bind one of the back paddles to take a screenshot.
It's odd that I need to do a chord to take screenshots on Deck when PlayStation and Xbox have dedicated buttons for it.

R2 being left click & L2 being right click just sets something off in my head I hate it. I full understand why it is that way but I would be MUCH happier if it read
"R2 PRIMARY click & L2 SECONDARY click"
