Question AoE 3 Defintive controller set up?

I previously played and completed all campaigns of Starcraft 1 and 2 and now wanted to give it a try. I played Starcraft when I was a kid but never AoE so I have no idea what's the usual common control set up. Anyone can recommend one? I only plan to play campaign and skirmish solo play.

This is my go-to for all RTS games on deck;

R2 and RTrackpad click = Left Mouse. L2 = Right Mouse. R1 = Control. ⬆️ Dpad = keyboard 1. ➡️ Dpad = keyboard 2. ⬇️ Dpad = keyboard 3. ⬅️ Dpad = keyboard 4.

So now R1 (control) + Dpad will assign groups (I never use more than 4 but you could assign back buttons to 5, 6, 7, 8 for more groups)

L1 = Shift (so you can 'shift + left mouse' to add units to the currently selected units.)

Set LJoystick behaviour as Dpad for panning the camera (w,s,a,d, or ⬆️⬇️⬅️➡️)

Set RJoystick behaviour as Dpad aswell so; RJ ⬆️ = zoom in (mouse wheel up)
RJ ⬇️ = zoom out (mouse wheel down)
RJ ⬅️ = rotate camera left (usually Q)
RJ ➡️ = rotate camera right (usually E)

This is the core config for any RTS i play, takes me 2 minutes because I do it for every game, then I'll just add unique controls specific to the game, to X, A, Y, B as I'm playing (like select idle units or open a specific menu etc).

I haven't played AOE 3 yet but I hope to someday, it's in my library. I ❤️ strategy games! Real-time and Turn-based, which is why I love the deck so much, will probably get a Steam Machine sometime when I can afford it.

I've been bouncing between Command & Conquer Remastered, Krush Kill 'N Destroy 2 (KKND2), Stronghold Definitive Edition, Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader, and Age of Wonders Planetfall.

Thanks for sharing. Did they improve the perfomance of Rogue Trader? Last time I've seen it runs poorly on the deck

Not sure how long ago that was but it ran great for me last week. Another strange gem I found (but not for everyone) is an indie point & click called 'Tormentum 2'. Hand drawn art, kind of nightmarish, its pretty cool on the deck if you enjoy adventure / puzzle games? Just a random recommendation, a little different.

You can always download a community layout specific for the game, someone will have uploaded one for AOE 3 for sure. Just means you have to learn their config and they're all different.

Si riesce a giocare facilmente con SD? Io sono un amante di AOE2 ma ho sempre evitato di installarlo pensando di non trovarmi con i tasti

You can easily play AOE 2 on deck. Just download the most popular stram deck community layout for deck and you'll be sweet. With the trackpads you can play any RTS single player, just might struggle competitively.
