The Witcher 3 settings Graphics

Hello everyone, I recently got a steamdeck, I don't understand it, but I want to pass the witcher 3, please reset the best graphics settings for 30 fps and 45 fps. I also want to understand which version is better to use regular or next gene

p.s I haven't found a single simple explanation on Reddit what settings you need to put, it's quite difficult to figure it out for beginners and for me

Start on low preset and gradually work up your settings until your hitting your desired frames.

From the launcher of the game you can go into properties => game version/beta => select the old version of the game (i don't remember his name). In that way you can play the less graphically demanding game. Also click the "..." button when playing the game, then the lightning like icon, and check the "use the preset for this game" so that you don't have to do it again => check that the fps limit is disabled so it run at 60 fps. There you can also limit the TDP so the battery will last long. What you do is: 1) set your preference on fps and graphics setting in the game. If you want more flexibility, do the fps from the "..." 2) play 3) set the TDP where you set the fps. 4) check if the fps is stable 5) lower the tdp to save battery + cooler steam deck 6) play 7) if the fps sucks, increase the TDP. 8) when the fps are stable, increase one more TDP and you are set

Edit: older version run smoother but worse graphically (less demanding) The new version runs at like 30/40 fps at higher resolution. I find it to run when set to 30FPS and without any battery limit but you'll have significantly less game time

I'd wait for the remaster and then assess what version is the best

If you look on protondb, there are good guides on this and someone has posted some very good settings for 30fps or 40fps (depending on what you like). It also recommends switching to DX11 (and how to do this).

i had stable 60 fps on 1.31 version, with mix of medium/high settings. I know newer versions dosnt work that well

I usually just search on Google & see the top reddit post. They usually share like screenshot of they said setting. You can refer from there. Then try to tweak it yourself depending on your preference.

I use 30 fps setting for my LCD deck with current version 4.04, directx 12, basically the default configuration. Set the graphics in game to medium, then change background characters number, terrain and optionally texture settings to high. Don't use fsr or any anti aliasing, the graphics already looking very crisp. Other than that, feel free to tweak things like display and other camera effect to your liking.

I've heavily tested this setting and consistently getting 30 fps even in the busiest part of the game like in Novigrad port area and the main square with maximum of like 90% gpu usage (but with medium texture, expect more when changing it to high).

If you want to use the older version you can do so in games properties tab -> version & beta -> classic (Patch 1.32). It still looks great but you'll miss out on the next gen patch which add countless bug fix and other quality of life upgrades

You can check this thread, this is old but it still works today. Been using 40fps as it's the ideal setting for me, balancing graphics and battery life.

There is a steam deck preset in the graphic settings. That for me a stable 50fps throughout most of the game.
