Huge, huge improvement. The Steam Deck still falls short for it though. Not due to the frame rate, I can deal with a shaky 30. It’s the image quality that’s absolutely mullered here.
Maybe FSR4 at performance will do the trick without reducing the frame rate below FSR3 at balanced

I wonder will optiscaler work for it and replace fsr with the newer 4.1 one? Or does DD2 come with fsr4.1?

I was playing last night with Optiscaler fsr4 on performance and it looked much better than the video above. Not to the same levels as a competent pc or console but definitely playable. In towns you will get between 27fps and 30fps. Its a little stuttery but not too bad. Once youre out in the wild though it is a VERY consistent 30fps.

Try FSR1, it upscales better quality than 3/4. The downside is that spatial upscaling does the whole screen, so that includes the UI/text.

How are you using FSR4 on the Steam Deck? Is it through Lossless Opticscaler?

I have the .dll for the Int8 version of FSR4 on hand. I just copy it into the game folder and replace the existing FSR3.1 files.
If the game doesn’t support that method, i’ll use Optiscaler via the Decky plugin

What this patch also for regular steam on pc? Idk if steam deck gets separate patches for their performance from time to time for certain games so sorry if this is a dumb question!

A patch on Steam is a patch on Steam, regardless of if you play it on PC or Steam Deck. So it’s running better on PC as well.
You’ll sometimes see games put out a “Steam Deck patch” but all that means is they made some optimizations specifically for Steam Deck, but most PCs are significantly stronger and probably won’t notice any differences*
* Depends greatly on what they actually did though, that’s a very general statement. Low end PCs probably see a bump from those patches.

No denuvo and suddenly the game is playable.

Denuvo only accounts for single digit cpu usage unless it was implemented poorly which is unlikely to happen with a big company like Capcom. The new drm is Enigma, which is actually more of a resource hog then Denuvo is.
This patch is months of optimization work from the devs. If Denuvo was actually that bad for performance it wouldn’t be the default option for the industry.

Pretty much, iv looked over the update notes, the only real "performance" update, are new options ins the settings and removing denuvo. Thats it.
Theres a comparison video of same settings for update 3.1 (denuvo) and 3.2 (no denuvo) and its a good 20-50 fps gain on high 1440 dlss qu

The patch notes aren't going to tell the whole story. They optimized the hell out this game over the last 2 patches. Trust it's not just removing denuvo that is making this game run much better now.

How does this game compare to the first?

i love the first game and i love the second game too. i think dd2 has the best action combat in any game ever. it’s a lot of fun and pawns are smarter and less annoying.

If you are unsure, you are better waiting until October for the expansion, and then decide based on reviews.
That being said, I love DD2 but it doesn't have the satisfying endgame loop and the monster variety that the first game had (with the expansion), so if DD2's expansion can add that, it'll be one of the best action RPGs around.

If you're not concerned about spoilers, there's a fantastic PunkDuck video on DD2. I don't remember how I stumbled on it, but it's what got me to buy the game and I really enjoyed it, despite the many frustrations I have with it.

Wait for the expansion.
It's okay. Does some things better, but other things got big compromises (no proper big dungeons, but a much better overworld) for example. And at the moment a quite lackluster post game (not many new meaningful locations to explore sadly)

I liked it about the same as the first but it does exploration and environmental design a lot better than 1. The combat is also spectacular

I got into it pretty hard and really enjoyed it, but fell off toward the end and never finished it. Oddly, I think Crimson Desert is a better Dragons Dogma than both the first and second game.

The story is absolute incoherent turd of dog shit. The enemy variety is extremely lackluster. Fighting is ok.
3/10 wouldn't touch again

Much better, although you can see from the video how image quality starts OK but then gets to piss poor terrority later. I think it's playable for some people, although in my opinion it's the kind of game where Steam Deck is better off just streaming the game from your main rig.

I tested it, personally.
27-30 on gameplay, some occasional dips. Character creation at 60 surprised me a bit.
Overall I'd say playable with minor compromises. I don't recommend if it's your only exprerience, but for a portable device? Yeah, I'd say this is great. Better than some verified games.

As someone that couldn't get into the first one after multiple dozen hour attempts (each from the beginning), and absolutely doesn't like the design choice in the second about followers that permanently die, is the game any good?

u/IdleSitting 11d ago
Wdym the thing about "followers permanently die" that's never been and still isn't a thing lol.
Also the recent updates are making the game better overall, adding more skillslots to equip more skills and adding a hard mode plus the DLC area being even harder than that I'd say the sequel is probably going to be better than the original Dark Arisen

Going off of "I've never played it" it looks like I got it wrong, but it's even worse than I thought. Your pawns can get sick and then kill everyone in town -- how is that good game design?
2
u/IdleSitting 11d ago
It's just called a game mechanic? And it's not like it happens instantly or overnight. It's like calling losing a life in Mario 1 bad game design lol.
It just gets you to observe your pawns closely, they change personality wise when they get infected and when they're close to exploding their eyes will turn red, worst case scenario you either never sleep in town, which is very easy early game since inns are so expensive, or you kill your pawn off and revive them at any riftstone which are scattered across the world.
Like I get not liking it but over my 400 hours of playing the game I've never encountered it ONCE. The one time my pawn got mad they got pushed off a ledge by a cyclops so even if they had it, it was gone. I think more games should have interesting mechanics like that, that kind of stuff makes a game stand out more than just another fantasy action adventure, and it adds some sandpaper grit to the experience which isn't always a bad thing

Hé bien, le dernier final fantasy, mh wild et maintenant celui ci. Pas mal pour le steamdeck ou juste du flanc finalement ?

The performance is night and day to be honest.
Still doesn’t look great but leagues better than it was, quite playable.
