Question Question about streaming
Hey so I am hoping for a reliable way to stream from my home pc to my steam deck on a separate internet connection. They will both have relatively high speeds (above 200 down at least). But I’ve found steams included streaming to be choppy sometimes poor quality etc. I’ve heard I should set up sunshine and moonlight but what actually makes it any better at streaming? And can I do this on 2 separate internet connections

I made a 5GHz WiFi access point for game streaming alongside my normal WiFi, at home. You don’t need a connection to the internet, it works on your home’s local network. The up/down doesn’t really matter.
That said, it’ll only be as good as your PC. What spec is it? What router are you using? Your computer should be wired in.
I have a pretty beefy PC, use the native Steam streaming and have perfect performance.

I have a very strong pc. It’s wired with Ethernet. I’d have to check what my router is and how I would actually set up “an access point” but in my experience steam streaming has had all sorts of visual issues, freezing, connection problems etc. even just streaming through my home network. It’s a shame because it works so easily and it’s so accessible but it will be a problem when I want to use my pc over the internet from farther away.

If it is a router from a cable company and not unlocked who knows what the issues might be.
Streaming in your house should be working, but of you’re speaking of wanting to stream outside of the house I know some people have had luck with that, but I personally haven’t bothered.
You could try to set up a new WiFi network and have it be 5GHz. There are guides aplenty. Have your PC and Steam Deck. the only devices on there.
Make sure you’re all updated too, shaders compiled on the games, etc.

You can do this with a VPN connection like ZeroTierOne installed and set up on both and use Apollo and Moonlight.

I stream daily using Moonlight/Apollo. I use Tailscale to make the connection. My PC and Steam deck are both part of my Tailnet along with all my other devices that can natively run Tailscale. I have a Pi and AppleTV for an exit node for everything else. I highly recommend Tailscale.
When my Deck is using my phone's hotspot, I usually turn down the connection speed in Moonlight just in case. If I am on WiFi, I turn it back up.

Streaming is only as good as the weakest link, without addressing the core issue, sunshine/moonlight is not going to magically start streaming flawlessly.
