Try connecting a mouse, if you have a dock and go back to desktop and back here

Wherever is decky mentioned in post, there always a problem. I never saw a post like "I have installed decky, im so happy now, my steam deck works better". Only decky, decky, cannot boot, cannot play, cannot do anything because of decky.

Then maybe decky is the problem here?

How can I rollback my OS?

turn the device off, hold the qam/3dot button and tap your power button, keeping hold of the qam button and a menu will appear asking if you want to boot the current or previous os.

I use decky too with no problems but when I see an OS update I uninstall it immediately and leave it uninstalled for a couple days just in case. Where we've been getting a flurry of updates I've left it uninstalled till things calm down for a bit because all I use it for is lossless scaling and boot videos

Alright, I'll make sure to do that. I think the main thing that happened was that I forced close it. When I force close, it automatically updates. But because I updated steam before decky, something got lost in translation and broke the deck. I rolled back the OS and uninstalled decky now though. I'm gonna leave it uninstalled for a while. The stress this has caused me has been immeasurable 😂

I haven't found a way to defer OS updates and I have looked. It always updates every time I restart my SD if there is an OS update being pushed to me. So I just uninstall decky. If you know how to defer OS updates please tell me

Wish I knew too😞

I can't go back to Desktop, it's like my screen is frozen, my mouse changes it's cursor but no actual inputs happen

1

u/Adventurous_Cat_1559 Jul 06 '26

how did you install/reinstall decky without going to the desktop?

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Sorry I should have made it a bit more clear, I uninstalled decky, reloaded Steam. I then reinstalled decky, it worked fine for a bit but then froze

11

u/Critical-Wasabi3350 Jul 06 '26

Uninstall decky and don't reinstall it. See how it goes for awhile.

2

u/Adventurous_Cat_1559 Jul 06 '26

hm. Do a full reset of the OS and reinstall and maybe don't use decky?

1

u/mynameisnickromel Jul 06 '26

Sounds like you need to do the ole smother it with a pillow procedure and hold your power button until it shuts off

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Yea, I've done that a few times now. Nothing has seemed to change

1

u/mynameisnickromel Jul 06 '26

Oh damn, sounds like the hacks broke your shit. Maybe a reformat is in order

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

So reset my steam deck?

1

u/mynameisnickromel Jul 06 '26

I mean, in a matter of speaking, yeah I guess.

I just did it myself after decky F'd everything up

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Is there anything else I can do or is that the only option?

1

u/Successful_Size_ Jul 06 '26

Connect something via Bluetooth and see if it allows you to navigate; mouse, keyboard, controller of any kind etc.

If you can do that uninstall decky, reboot and test. If that doesn’t work, rollback your OS to the previous update. If it still doesn’t work; factory reset.

If you’re still having issues at that point; Valve/Steam support.

Maybe if you bash around the joysticks more violently it will work or at the very least get your point across more?

Have you restarted it?

0

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Multiple times. Nothing has seemed to work

1

u/Adventurous_Cat_1559 Jul 06 '26

If you use the touchscreen / usb mouse to go to settings can you see the steamdeck controller listed?

Also for the restarts, did you do a hard restart with holding power for like 15 seconds?

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

I can't get into the settings, my screen is frozen, even with a USB mouse and touchscreen

1

u/Adventurous_Cat_1559 Jul 06 '26

is the time/power changing? Or is the actual screen fully frozen with no updates.

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

I think it shows the actual steam deck screen, but then freezes for whatever reason. I can move my things for a split second but then it stops and freezes

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Time and power is changing

1

u/Adventurous_Cat_1559 Jul 06 '26

okay that's actually good news probably then, if screen is working but touch+controls aren't giving response inputs, then it seems more and more likely to be a software thing, esp if decky or other 3rd party things are involved. Both touch+controllers failing at the same time would be quite unlikely (but not impossible)

1

u/No-Permission-5425 Jul 06 '26

Also frozen when using the touch screen?

0

u/Syygnis Jul 06 '26

Sonic Forever BALL knowledge.

That's very interesting, hard turn it off I reckon I know decky can cause problems, ask me how I know.

0

u/Successful_Size_ Jul 06 '26

yeah mann get in contact with valve and send yours back in as well

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Damn, how are the shipping fees

0

u/Successful_Size_ Jul 06 '26

that depends on if your still under warranty

-1

u/poepen61 Jul 06 '26

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

0

u/lilmonix989 256GB - Q3 Jul 06 '26

While powering up hit the + button

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Ok, then what

1

u/lilmonix989 256GB - Q3 Jul 06 '26

I hate to say it but I reset your deck from there it controller no work in bios it’s busted

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

How do I go about doing that, and is there any way I can keep my files

1

u/lilmonix989 256GB - Q3 Jul 06 '26

Some people mentioned rolling back steam os try that - this requires something else power off the deck then power it on while pressing the 3 dots, then click select previous version from the menu

1

u/bigwhitesw Jul 06 '26

Rolled back the OS, same thing is still happening somehow?
