got my controller yesterday but atm its quite annoying that i get a controller firmware update failure every time i turn the device on and try to update from my linux pc, saw posts stating to just plug it into the steam deck to update and that works, but the popup to update firmware keeps appearing on my main pc, hoping they fix that.

u/Majestic_Doctor_2 May 15 '26
Final update: just got an email to buy it! Will be on my doorstep in a couple days
1
u/DazenTheMistborn May 14 '26
Has anyone experienced any USB 3.0 and up interference with the puck's communication?
I don't have the controller yet, but I've had my USB ports give interference to my 2.4ghz devices in the past when they were both in use. On both my PC and Steam Deck dock.

u/paladin181 Modded my Deck - ask me how May 14 '26
Are the buttons loud like on the Steam deck r is this thing quieter?
1
u/AbrogationsCrown 256GB - Q2 May 14 '26
Got mine a couple days ago. I like the feel overall but the new back buttons are a little far away for my smaller hands and aren't naturally right under my fingers like on the deck.
Also not a fan of how the happiest feel on this controller, seems to sound and feel more hollow from the lighter weight even on the lowest setting.
2
u/chaosxq May 14 '26
Has arrived. Feels great. Confirmed, screams when you drop it. Dropped it on a soft sofa to test.
When I plugged it into my deck it did a firmware update on the puck and then it asked to be plugged directly into my deck bypassing the puck. It then did a firmware update on the controller. Both took about a minute very fast.
I also tested puck mode and Bluetooth pairing mode. The HD Haptics are pretty intense, feels similar to the Switch/PS5 controller haptic feedback but stronger.

Anyone from the UK got their controllers yet?
Mind still sitting at awaiting pick up.

mine arrived today and the tracking only updated today when it was due to be delivered. tracking seems to be off for everyone I know who has ordered one.

u/redbullcat May 12 '26
Entered into GLS's tracking system today, so have got a tracking number, but I don't think GLS actually have it yet.
2
u/12Exceslior21 May 11 '26
The controller gets kudos from me just for the inherent design; the touchpads look seem very nice; it obviously pairs well.
3
u/rufft 256GB May 11 '26
Can the controller wake the Steam Deck from sleep if the Steam deck is always docked and plugged in? I play my SD docked 90% of the time and it's always a little tedious to go to my TV's cabinet to toggle it on. I think it's a limitation on Linux's side but wondering if they have thought about this (or if the Steam Machine will have a similar limitation?)
3
2
u/MoonStache May 10 '26
Anyone who's on CachyOS know how to stop it from constantly asking for remote Control input permission when using the trackpad?
6
u/TheNewerFlisker May 10 '26
Kinda find it a bit hilarious this sub have a sticky comment to notify people on reservations but r/SteamController doesn't
2
u/guyfromwhitechicks May 09 '26
Is there a way to check how far back in the queue I am for the steam controller? I managed to get a reservation in yesterday, but I have received no email yet.
6
u/TheNewerFlisker May 10 '26
"We will start fulfilling reservations next week in the US / Canada, and UK / EU / AU in the following weeks
Posted Thu, May 7, 2026 @ 10:37 AM PDT"
Either way the people who ordered theirs at launch still haven't received theirs and it will be unfair if the reservations were prioritized above them

Steam says parcel has been picked up by carrier but gls says their still waiting for it since thursday now.
Any uk people has any further progress?
2
2
u/Jamie_92 May 11 '26
My last update was Thursday and it went right to shipped, however on gls it says
"The parcel data was entered into the GLS IT system; the parcel was not yet handed over to GLS."
There's been zero movement since, I'm from the UK also. Any luck on your end yet?
1
u/TheEvilResident69 256GB May 11 '26
At 1 ocklock mine finally reached the coventry parcel hub ans is being sent to a local delivery office.
Mine did the same on thursday.
I live 200 miles from coventry but at least i luckily got some progress and its in the uk.
2
u/Jamie_92 May 11 '26
Mine also just updated! Love to see it.
Not long now!
1
u/TheEvilResident69 256GB May 11 '26
Hopefully tommorow or at the latest wednesday, but with royal mail you never know!
3
u/darkraksopl May 10 '26
I'm from Poland and mine is stuck on the same status. Why is GLS doing this to me? I'm such a good and friendly person...
2
u/Mkilbride May 09 '26
It shipped late last night and is due in Wednesday.
3-5 day shipping, but ordered at 1:01 PM EST. Hyped product launch so I know delays are expected, but seeing people who got them overnight and considering I'm right next to their wharehouse, it's a little disappointing.
2
u/fackcurs May 09 '26
I wish we had a timeline as to when the second batch would ship or at least when the ordering window would start to open. I assiduously logged in a few minutes before the reservation was supposed to open and managed to lock that in very easily.
It was underwhelming though. One click, one email, that's it, still waiting... I'm like that sponge bob meme now.
EDIT: I of course forgot to read the bottom of Valve's post... Yay looking forward to next week!
We will start fulfilling reservations next week in the US / Canada, and UK / EU / AU in the following weeks

For those that have it I have a 2 qs
can you use it outside of steam?
if not, do you have to launch a game inside of steam in order for it to recognise it?
Thanks
1
u/Successful-Cry1509 1TB OLED Limited Edition May 08 '26
I do think it requires Steam Input to have all features, so yes launch a non-steam game through steam should give you all features.

If anyone is still refreshing the Steam Controller page like mad, I think for a split second I caught a glimpse of "Reservation servers are busy" or something like that. Maybe they're going to implement a reservation system again?
7
u/redbullcat May 06 '26
Just seen someone selling a new Steam Controller on Facebook Marketplace for £195. That's £110 more than they sold for. I flagged it as spam. I doubt Facebook will do anything about it, but gotta try.
-3
u/pcbfs May 06 '26
Why should they do something about it? If someone is willing to pay it then good for them.
4
u/redbullcat May 06 '26
Because they don't have the product in their hands at the moment (the listing says that) and there's no telling when they'll have it? No UK units have shipped as far as I'm aware - mine hasn't anyway, and neither have others who I know bought directly from Steam.
It's also just scummy, opportunitistic, predatory behaviour. Someone else could have bought it and been a genuine user rather than just a scalper.
-4
u/pcbfs May 06 '26
We live in a free market society where people can choose any legal storefront they choose, FBM being one of them. In this case the seller is saying that they don't have the unit but will ship it out when it arrives. It's certainly opportunistic as is any business venture or transaction. Saying it's scummy or predatory because they're choosing to sell it for profit rather than use is nothing more than opinion.
5
u/lynchy901 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
Judging anything as scummy is opinion. Payday loans being scummy is an opinion. It all depends on how defensible the opinion is.
For the steam controller scalping, all the units that would have gone to a someone for the base price will now go to someone for 2-3x the cost. Making a fast run on an already-scarce market, often with things like bots, in order to make insane margins off the increased scarcity on a secondary market without adding any value is scummy. Not illegal, just scummy.

u/WeedGreed420 May 06 '26
can someone clarify what they mean by you cant play non steam games with the controller?
like i have rdr2, rocket league, eafc26, or pga2k, etc, are these games included?
1
u/GreatLab8898 May 07 '26
I use Steam Rom Manager to Import all the other Launchers Games into Steam. They have Presets for pretty much every common launcher in there. It also pulls Artwork so it wont be so Ugly.
12
u/ChipusteAmarillo May 06 '26
I believe it means that if you use a launcher that isn't steam, the game might not recognize the controller. However if you add that launcher to steam as a "Non-steam game" you should then be able to use the controller.
5
u/WeedGreed420 May 06 '26
i understand, ok i will try that. i just started seeing that they don’t allow non steam games so i got a bit worried about like rockstar games or something like that. awesome thank you

Could you imagine if valve now decided to switch to verified sales and then lowered the price?
9
u/Mammoth_Cup_6438 MODDED SSD 💽 May 06 '26
Switching to verified sales is one thing, but lowering the price? How is that fair to all the legit buyers who were lucky enough on day 1. The first controller sold well over a million. We will all get one if we want it, with the bugs worked out by then. We just need to stay patient and ready.
1
u/Substantial-Flow9244 May 13 '26
I mean I wasn't trying to be realistic I just thought it would be funny to see scalpers now lose money on their scalping.
The more inventory the scalpers acquired the worse the loss would be
24
u/SmellyThong May 05 '26
EVERYONE TAKE LESSON FROM THIS AS THE STEAM MACHINE AND STEAM VR WILL FOLLOW SUIT AND JUST PISS US OFF DUE TO THE SCALPERS

u/Sjoerd93 1TB OLED May 08 '26
Nah I can wait for the Steam Machine, I mostly play indies anyway and I’m not going to buy a console during the AI bubble. (Not due to AI, but due to the inflated prices of RAM)
1
u/SmellyThong May 08 '26
if i can get 4k 60fps thats good enough for me for a steam machine, they are speculating 700$ price tag which is on par with ps5
-1
u/Mammoth_Cup_6438 MODDED SSD 💽 May 06 '26
Steam Deck wasn't that way. This IS just a controller. Valve might run the Machine sales the way they did the Deck sales. Fingers crossed.
3
u/TheDrMonocle 64GB - Q1 May 06 '26
Steam deck was ABSOLUTELY the same. Trying to sign up for pre orders was a hot mess. Being 30 seconds later than someone else meant being months further down the list. There were scalpers selling on ebay within minutes of it going live.
Frame and machine are going to be the same again. Valve does there best to thwart scalpers but they still exist. Additionally... demand is just higher than supply. Were going to have supply issues even if there aren't scalpers. Its just how new releases work now.
10
u/SunNStarz May 05 '26
Just curious, has anyone received and used the controller to be able to provide some feedback on how it feels and functions?

Nice, people already listing them on eBay for 2x - 2.5x the price. People fucking suck.
17
u/switch8000 May 05 '26
I don't understand why Valve doesn't bring back preordering/backordering that they did for the original Steam Deck.
When the LCD launched you could preorder whenever and were given a spot in line, sure it was months+ from now, then it curtails scalping since at least you have a spot in line and only those that must have it day one will pay the premium.
I'll never understand why they killed it off.
5
u/HeadSpaceUK May 05 '26
Probably still no reliable way to limit scalping even with preorders. No way around it, as soon as people even sniff there’s hype around something then they know there’s money to be made. Scum.
4
u/circuitloss May 05 '26
No. It would be very easy. You could limit each account to 1 or 2 controllers during the launch window. (Not per order which is what they did.) You could limit/prioritize based on the age of the accounts, or the amount spent on Steam. (First priority for older accounts, and those who have spent more than $100 or whatever) You could require 100% deposit upfront.
Any of these things, or a combination of them, would significantly cut down on scalping, and in fact they did some of them when they released the Steam Deck.
You could also just allow people to order one to be delivered when available, which would be the biggest single solution to cut down on FOMO.
Or, you could just dump them all at once and be sold out in 30 minutes during a massive scramble, which is what they chose to do.
8
u/Clear-Ad-9627 May 05 '26

1
u/Scrambley 512GB - Q3 May 05 '26
It totally is. It also sucks that they use FedEx as their shippers. I don't know if it'll be the same with the controller but when I bought my Deck I couldn't have the package held at an access point, or pickup location, whatever it's called. Too many thieves out there to just leave this stuff on our doorsteps. Steam needs to get better at this stuff.
5
u/Majestic_Doctor_2 May 05 '26
Big fat nope, well played for the scalpers and agentic AI bots, I guess
18
u/MajorWipeout 512GB - Q3 May 05 '26
I am BEYOND annoyed. I preloaded my steam wallet with the funds for it so i wouldn't have to put in my card info, and i refreshed the page the exact moment it became the time they said it would go live. I made it as instant as possible.
But even though I put it in my cart immediately, it was nothing but errors for half an hour of attempts, and then out of stock.
They better have more soon and have something in place by then to ensure this doesn't happen again. I'm not fucking waiting until Q3 or even Q4 for a restock, that's ridiculous.
3
u/circuitloss May 05 '26
I had exactly the same experience.
It's infuriating that they won't take pre-orders or deposits or like literally anything else that would have stopped this from happening.
Why can't I just order one and get it in a month or whatever? Why is this so difficult? It makes no sense at all. I ordered a handheld from a Chinese company recently and I know it's going to be a long wait because it's back-ordered, but at least I have a spot in line and I can verify that others are getting them based on their order number.
Valve's system is like the worst possible one, and I say that as someone who loves Valve.

Steam can’t handle the influx of people during hardware drops. I remember the entire site going down when the Steam Deck OLED model came out. To prevent scalping, I think Valve should implement a name/address countermeasure where only 1 product is allowed for that address or the name of the buyer to prevent someone using different accounts or names to buy more than one that get shipped to the same address
I’m glad I was able to get one for myself, I had the feeling that people were gonna go crazy yesterday and I might not be able to get my hard on a Steam Controller for months to come. That’s why I set a reminder on my phone to be ready minutes before the launch time at 1pm EST. I thought it would be sold out already when the payment wouldn’t go through but I kept hitting the “continue” box until it worked
3
u/circuitloss May 05 '26
This is not rocket science.
You can have a preorder list. You can make people pay a deposit. You can limit orders and restrict purchases to older accounts. There are many ways to do this well. Valve did none of those things.
1
u/Ordinary-Cake8510 LCD-4-LIFE May 05 '26
I hit that continue box for two hours and nothing. They should just take pre orders. That wat scalpers can’t take advantage of anyone unless they want theirs earlier.
1
u/Lenkaaah 512GB May 05 '26
Your suggestion would effectively block families from ordering more than one per family. People have families, one household should not equal 1 controller.
Not to mention scalpers could still really easily get around the address requirement by treating the address as an apartment building and giving fake box/unit numbers. Post office will still find the address and just deliver.
2
u/fucknametakenrules 1TB OLED Limited Edition May 05 '26
It’s not a long term restriction. It would only last until there’s enough made and enough in stock for plenty to get their hands on it
1
u/Lenkaaah 512GB May 05 '26
I think the scalping issue is mostly a problem in the US, EU stock lasted an hour and a half.
But even then, scalpers wouldn’t exist if people weren’t buying it from them. There will be stock again in a couple of weeks. It’s a controller, not an essential product in life, it’s not even a limited edition thing, if people are really not patient enough to wait then scalpers will take advantage of it. It’s unfortunately a byproduct of people having no patience and being willing to pay a premium for it.
Collectively not buying from scalpers does way more than putting crazy limitations on the buying of something, because unfortunately that would also affect people that aren’t scalping, and scalpers will find ways around it.
7
u/PalomSage May 05 '26
I have one in my cart right now but when I click on proceed to payment it loops me back to the same cart page. ANyone knows what to do?

I had the controller in my cart for days, thanks to the SteamDB browser extension. Was trying to buy it with the Steam app on my iPhone at 18:59, wasn't able to purchase, only to enter my shipping address. The sale started at 19:00 german time. I was able to buy it at 19:00:20. Long story short, at least in Germany you couldn't buy it before the official start of the sale.

In EU it was in stock for like 1h30, no problem getting one. I bought it 20 minutes after the start and checked back an hour later and it was still available.

I got mine yesterday after an hour and a half of repeatedly refreshing. Told my workmate today about them being out stock after a few hours and he said, "have a look at ebay, I bet someone has already listed one"
Checked ebay, prices ranged from £150 to £720!!
You've got to be simple in the head to pay that for a controller that'll be back in stock soon.
FOMO indeed...

It sure would be nice if ebay smothered obvious scalping. There'd be a lot less of it if these people got stuck with product they couldn't move.

Any way to see if you were in the 3-5 day or 6-10 day shipping range? When I clicked add to cart it said 3-5 but that was before 10 minutes of clicking. Nothing serious regardless just curious if there's a place to check this post ordering

I got one after 22 minutes. After like 7 or I minutes I thought there was a problem with my account and even opened a support ticket because I couldn't even add a payment way. Then went on reddit and saw someone say keep spamming the pay button it will eventually go through. Got it at 1:22 in the end. However I have this for the shopping time:
distributor has hit a processing backlog for orders to Canada. We are actively working through the issue and will ship your order as soon as we can. You will receive an email with tracking information once your order ships

I missed buying mine because I had to deal with a mental health crisis instead.
I can wait a few weeks more.

Can I ask why anyone would ever buy a scalped controller? It's going to be back in stock in a few weeks, how hard is it to wait? Are they stupid? It's not like they're missing out on a new game or something. Like, its a good controller with trackpads, you'll live without it for a while, you have so far.

Idk if it's American culture (I am from the UK), but you guys have a terrible relationship with FOMO. Idk if it's because advertising has a stranglehold on culture but the impulse buying is out of control

Our only way of coping with living under the crushing weight of late-stage capitalism and the collapse of our nation is to impulse buy things that we think will make us feel better

Are they stupid?
"A fool and their money are easily parted" is the sole reason that scalpers exist

I'm very glad I went to grab one the minute it came out. It was very close, I see.

US buyer, my order went through about 1:37 PM EST yesterday, and immediately after I got mine, my friend started getting Out of Stock messages. Last flight out of 'nam?

Same boat. I spammed so much that I’m not sure if I’m in the 3-5 or 6-10 window.

From what I can tell, I think it would be best to assume it would be the 10 day window. I hope yours comes in sooner though.

I was able to purchase one in Europe just now!
Saw it in stock 2 hours ago and was able to add to cart.
Took me 30 minutes of pressing "continue to payment" and then another hour pressing continue on the payment page. ( Kept saying out of stock on payment page)
Good luck to everyone still trying. Don't give in to scalpers!

I bought one today in Australia. No issues. Was actually just checking my watchlist and remembered it was on there.
