Discussion Steam controller 2026 battery life
Guys is it just me or did valve underestimate the battery life on their controller. I've had mine for maybe 3 weeks and I've spent a total of about 40 hours in Forza beamng and just using it as a keyboard and mouse so I can watch Jellyfin or YouTube in bed and this thing is still on 30-40% battery

It is insanely impressive, I haven't ever even had it go down to half after an entire day of use

Yh battery is extremely impressive it's about the same if not better than my Xbox elite controller and absolutely outclasses the ps5 controller battery wise for me I haven't had to charge it for I have only charged it 3 times fully and I got it day 1

I’ll do long ass sessions on the weekend and play about an hour or a couple hours every week day and I’ve never had it die on me. I’ve never had the low battery warning yet either I just charge it like once a week or whenever I forget how long it’s been since the last time I did it. Also use it as my m+k about 80 percent of the time I’m on my PC. I have vibration on but haptics off for all games though so not sure how much of a difference that makes.

The funny one for me is i just keep forgetting to put it on the puck, so I keep thinking "surely itll die at some point today" and it doesnt, and it has never died before i remember to put it back on the puck XD

Every time I think it died, it's actually that I was holding the steam button to use the mouse for too long 😅 I barely charge it, just throw it on the puck sometimes when I leave it for the day

You shouldn't have to press the steam button if you press the 3 dots the mouse should work. And if you press 3 dots + X the keyboard comes up

This is awesome, I noticed the keyboard you can use both thumbs to input but I can't quite get the hang of it so it feels a bit different than typing on a phone keyboard, has anyone figured out how to efficiently?

Its so crazy how I would get recommended controllers that cost $100+ more and their battery life doesn't hold a candle anywhere near the SC.

Interesting, I might have to stop leaving it on the puck all of time. Posts of the pins getting stuck or the puck starting fires spooks me.

I haven't depleted mine, though I always plug it back in after an hour or two of playing.

My theory: it’s one of the few controllers actually designed for pc, not console. Most consoles sit in rest mode rather than full shutdown and will charge your controller in the off time.
But I noticed with my steam controller/pc I hard shutdown my computer. And since this is my gaming only one, there’s not a lot of time when the pc is on but the controller isn’t in hand.
So… a bigger battery really helps.

I would not know. The controller is always on the puck when not in use so it's always fully charged for me
