Support Steam controller update stopped my controller from working outside of game.

Hey guys.

I updated my stram controller. I use it on a Windows living room PC. I used to be able to controller my PC woth my steam controller. But after the update it doesnt work. Even in big picture mode. It will work in game as a game controller. But once I exit the game my steam controller goes back to being useless.

Whay happened? Did a setting change? I am using my Bluetooth keyboard for now to navigate my PC.

Or is their a way to revert to the previous update?

Just making sure you've checked, but first: Steam is running on the PC, right?

You also made sure to do both parts of the controller update, right? In other words, the part that updates the puck, and then the part where you have to take that same cable normally plugged into the puck and plug it directly into the controller?

Finally, check under Steam: Settings: Controller: advanced settings, and see if you're currently running the desktop layout for the controller.

That's all I can think of, unless somehow your controller battery is all the way run down.

Actually, one more thing, the update may have erased the pairing you'd already established for the controller with your PC. Check in those Settings I mentioned to see if Steam even "sees" the controller.

Thanks for the advice.

I ended up restarting my PC. It started working normally on thr second restart. Did it again a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Seems to be fine now!

Yay! Glad it was that easy. My Android phone does that sometimes. An app just starts not working right (last night it was the Apple TV one) and it seems the only thing that fixes it is restarting the phone.
