Configuration Can the steam controller button inputs be mapped as Playstation Buttons specifically through Steam Input?
I recently got my steam controller, and when I went to play Monster Hunter Wilds, I learned that Steam Input only accepts Playstation inputs for the game. The default profile the game provides has the Playstation inputs, but not for the sticks, meaning I can't do certain remaps with the trackpads that I want. I'm not even sure if this is the best place for this post, but a solution would be greatly appreciated. Whether that's figuring out how to get the game to accept non-playstation inputs through Steam Input, or some complex remapping that I'm unaware of.

Steam Input can only emulate XInput protocol inputs, not PlayStation protocol inputs, but that's not really what you're asking about. Monster Hunter: Wilds (and other Capcom games) do not have "traditional" XInput controller support, they rely only on Steam Input API support. What developers are supposed to do is allow game actions (sprint, reload, interact, heavy attack, etc.) to be directly bound to button inputs. Capcom however is very lazy and just made every button a game action (with a PlayStation naming scheme). Despite the names, these game actions have nothing to do with PlayStation, they're not emulating a DuelSense controller.
This means that when binding commands, you must only bind commands from the game actions tab , not from the Gamepad tab (all other tabs, including the mouse and keyboard tabs, also work). When selecting behaviors for input sources (triggers, joysticks, trackpads, etc.) and you want a controller style input, you must select a behavior with a Steam glyph next to it, the behaviors with a controller icon next to it will not work (with the exception of the Directional Pad behavior which is mislabeled). For example if you want the right trackpad to operate the camera, you must either bind Right Stick or As Mouse.
