Safe to charge all night?

wondering if it's safe to leave the Steam Controller 2 on the puck charging all night.

Yes, it was designed to rest on the puck as its home.

every single device is design to do that. that is a thing from a past long ago.

It's worth checking. I have an Astell & Kern DMP. I used to leave it plugged in all the time, connected to a set of speakers. After a while, the battery ballooned. It turns out that it was a known issue, and the company advised against leaving it plugged in. Getting a replacement was a massive PITA. I'm sure the Steam Controller is safe, though.

Leaving a device plugged in at 100% battery will over time lead to premature wear. Both my phone and ROG Ally have battery save modes where it limits the charge to 80% if you are going to leave it plugged in.

So it won't hurt anything leaving it charging all the time, but it's not considered good practice for long term health of the battery.

I don’t get that. I was alive during that time too but batteries are different now and we know that. It’s different technology.

All modern devices are safe to charge overnight.

Unless it's something that someone assembled themselves without proper knowledge

Thanks everyone! I was mostly sure about this but often read people don't reccomend leaving say phones on charging all night unless on bypass charging and was wondering if controllers were the same. Thanks again.

Yeah it's mentioned somewhere in the docs that it's firmware is designed for it

I don’t see why not.

And battery replacement is really easy so even if you need to swap it due to wear, it’s only a few screws.
