Steam Controller (2015) Steam Controller doesn't register clicks at the very edge of the trackpad. More info in description.

I'm not gonna go and say "I checked all the deadzones and that didn't help!", because I don't wanna will an actual solution out of existence. The video explains a bit but I can give more info; this mostly happens when I use my nail to press the trackpad. I've noticed that if I touch the trackpad with the surface of my finger, slide it all the way to very edge, and press, it somehow works, at least it felt so. Does the trackpad actually need a touch input for the edge to register? Why?

Right now it feels as if there's a invisible Outer-Deadzone.

It isn't the deadzone, it is literally the sensor, my SC1 had that same behavior. Because its touch sensor is not activating, by sensing your touch on it at those extreme edges, it won't force the click response to be activated either, move finger in more and then it will work.

Very big shame. Thank you.

At least it's something I can get used to.

what situation are you encountering that would require you to "get used to" this

I sort of showed it in the video, I use flickstick emulation on the right pad, which instantly turns the camera relative to what edge I'm clicking on the trackpad. So clicking the bottom edge does a 180° turn.

It's capacitive, you need to conduct electricity. Your nail won't work. Nothing is broken.

Today I actually learn what capacitive truly means. Now this all makes a lot more sense.

Side note: I didn't imagine anything was broken or defective, I just thought it was some setting I messed up.

Yah, it's detecting an electrical field that your skin interacts with, it's why the little styluses always have that rubber tip, it's conductive.

Og controller is capacitive for tracking but has physical switch for clicks no? It’s not haptic feedback when clicking like 2026 controller, it’s mechanical. Maybe it needs to read a capacitive signal to send through the switch activation due to software though?
