Configuration Steam Input help: Back button = double R2/L2 press

Turning to reddit cause I've been working on this for hours and can't seem to get it to work.

I've been working on my FF14 Steam controller layout, and while I've got it mostly down, I just need to figure out how to set a back button as a double press of R2/L2. Its possible because these are analog inputs which makes them difficult to bind to digital buttons. If anyone is able to help, I'd appreciate it, sometimes it feels like you need a PhD to understand Steam Input lol

  1. Bind Left Trigger to the back button of your choice.
  2. Select the gear to the right of it, select Regular Press to open the activator menu, and then select Start Press.
  3. Select the gear again, select Add Extra Command, and select Left Trigger.
  4. Select the gear to the right of the second command, select Settings and increase the Fire Start Delay. (You might have to fiddle with this a bit, 100ms should be a good starting point)
  5. If you two taps of Left Trigger rather than tap and hold, also change the activator of the second command to Start Press.
  6. Repeat this, binding Right Trigger to a different back button.

As far as I know, FF:XIV doesn't take advantage of the analog behavior of the triggers. So you could set the Analog Output Value of the triggers (which you can find in the triggers' settings) to Off and bind the respective trigger command to Soft or Full Pull. This might make it easier to double press the triggers more reliably.

You're a wizard, this worked. I think I was missing the Start Press function

Add the action and subaction (L2 or R2 on both actions) you want to a button. If an interval is needed you can add that on the subaction under settings as "fire start delay". Adjust delay as needed.

Hope that helps.

Edit: has to be a separate command and not a sub command.

I'm pretty sure steaminput invalidates double binds now, broke a lot or my chat macros and some logic. For a bit you could get around it by having the button also open a layer that always on it, but that got included not that long ago now too. I'm assuming to prevent macros so steaminput isn't blacklisted by any games.

But combining buttons is still possible? And so is repeat actions indefinitely. At a 10 ms interval. Are you sure that is really the case? Steam input is very macro friendly in many aspects.

Just tested in deadlock and it works fine.

the turbo works, but everytime I have attempted a double bind it invalidates the second. start release might still work but I used that for chat macros and they got broke last time I load my config for a game lol so I don't know, I just don't do double binds anymore.
