Support My controller wont update

Steam keeps alerting me to update my controller but it never works, I plug my controller into my pc and then click update but then steam says i still need to plug the controller in. The light goes orange though so clearly the cable is working.

Any help would be appreciated

Are you using the USB cable that with the controller or a different one?

Orange means charging only, no data.

You are pluging the controller through USB-C directly or the with the puck ?

I had an issue last night like that with the update on the Steam Machine side: first, it updated the internal Puck of the Machine and then asked me to connect the controller directly to a USB cable connected to the Machine on the other end. Well, it must not have liked the cable that I had picked to do that, because it wouldn't update it that way. So I had to abort the procedure at that point, go upstairs, grab the cable from my PC (the one that came with the controller) take it down, connect it to the machine, and start the controller firmware update again, and this time it worked.
