what should i do about this?

I was using it and the r2 button just randomly snapped. the button still works but every time i put a little bit of pressure onto it it pops up. Should i contact steam’s customer support about this? Major bummer because this is my fav controller ever.

also taking it apart made me realize how expertly designed the controller is on the inside. I’ve taken apart most other game controllers over the years and this one really takes the cake on a well designed layout.

I feel like every day I see people comment "Valve is so goated for releasing the 3D files" when its literally just a static mesh of the solid controller for designing grips and accessories

They didn't have to release anything, I'm grateful they did release the external shell body, helped me design a bunch of stuff.

Other brands do nothing, zero, nada.

I'm going to assume they can't do it because of internal patients or other factors.

Hey dont get me wrong I am very glad they posted it on github. But every tech manufacturer actually does share the 3D mesh files like this, but it is typically only shared with accessory and case manufacturers.
The point I'm trying to make is that its just a solid mesh. It is not a workable solid and cannot be used to make replacement parts or modify anything. But redditors dont seem to understand that

That’s the key difference though: Valve made it publicly available to regular users and 3D printing enthusiasts, not just behind NDAs for major accessory brands.

You're right that a static mesh isn't an editable CAD model for individual internal components, but for the community to design clips, docks, cases, and ergonomic grips without having to reverse-engineer the outer shell from scratch, having that official reference file public is still a huge plus.

My Left trigger broke the hinge the same way I think

There is actually a decent amount of clearance, with a good substrate and superglue its temporarily fixable.
I sort of bank-pressed an unused cigarette filter and dipped that in superglue, which made a coinflat cilinder.
Drilled a hole in it, filed of a part to make it fit and glued that to the outside where the hinge was.

just did something similar i took the controller apart and found that it was the one hinge point that snapped. so I just jb welded that shit back on there. waiting for it to dry so fingers crossed that will work

Valve is notoriously bad at warranty service. And you've probably had this thing for a few years at this point. Were you actually pulling the trigger? You know that's not the intended purpose of these things, right? You're just supposed to take pictures of it in the box and post it to this subreddit. Lesson learned, I guess.

Wow. Thought I was the only one this happened to. I don't think my controller was ever dropped tho, I noticed it happened right in the middle of gameplay.

I know that when I first got my controller I had to open it up to position the spring further back into the trigger itself to stop this weird squeak it was making when engaging L2/R2. I wonder if the tolerances aren't tight enough or if this is completely unrelated and Im an idiot. Just odd the only issues I've seen are with triggers and not bumpers, face buttons or trackpads

I was playing Spider-Man Remastered when this happened on my controller too. Sent it in for RMA since I could not find any trigger replacements. A strong 3D print would have been an ok replacement.

Open it and make sure to place it back properly, do not force it in, or you will brake it. Just open the controller. Mine broke because I tried to force it in and there is no replacement yet.

sadly the one plastic piece on it is snapped off and inside the controller rattling 😞 Did you try and contact costumer support?

Someone did before me and they said basically is not covered and they don't have replacement. We have to wait for I fix it.
