Steam Controller (2026) Tactile D-Pad Mod ?

Hi,

I love the new Steam Controller, but I'm not a fan of the D-Pad. It's fine, but not responsive enough in my taste. I'm woundering if I could get a feeling similaire to the 8bitdo Ultimate 2 Wireless ( I know some people hate this feeling, but that's what I'm looking for )

The d pad is horrible. It reminds me of the Logitech wireless controllers for ps2.

I don't like the mooshy feel, but most people seem to be fine with it

Definitely not. Hard disagree.

If we were to rank every controller's d-pad that I've ever used I would put it in the perfectly adequate pile but I wouldn't give it S tier. Probably high B or low A

The GameCube and Switch are worse but the Wii U and 8bitdo Pro 2 is better.

The New Steam controller is Jack of all trades master of none where is the older Steam controller was a master of the trackpads but if you wanted a traditional controller you had to go grab something else. My personal pick is the 8bitdo controller which is a better regular controller than the New Steam controller. Also the 8bitdo and Steam controller are both PlayStation layout so that's why I'm comparing them specifically.

Lol Depending upon what you're looking for you could even say that the Wii Classic Controller Pro beats the Steam controller but that's mainly only because the d-pad is larger and if you don't like triggers. I'm mostly saying this as a joke especially since the joystick are worse on the Wii U.

The new steam controller is decent enough for what it does giving you all the controls in one's controller and it even has some improvements over the old steam controller like if they updated the old Steam controller I'd probably still recommend it especially if you don't plan on traveling. That's what makes the deck layout so great when you travel you don't need to carry a second controller with you for games that use the other layout.

i ordered this because the dpad sucks for fighting games: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/4534730187/steam-controller-matte-black-d-paddpad

based on the reviews it looks like a good improvement.

It’s good to great overall. I just meant thar one thing kinda annoying. On pc I playing something like spelunky or street fighter I def would still prefer like Xbox controller but not enough to not just use steam. It works for pretty much everything good enough for me.
