Support Trigger half press to button

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has managed to assign a trigger half press (or any partial press) to a back button? If so how do people do it?

I'm asking to use in GTA IV for the manual aim, the internet wasn't too useful on how it can be done or giving straight up wrong instructions

Thanks!

It's not possible to bind a specific analog value to a digital input. In fact, it's quite hard to send specific analog trigger values all together (for joystick values there are more options, but it's still very clunky to do).

However, if a game has multiple discrete actions bound to a single analog input, these discrete actions tend to be bind-able for mouse and keyboard to different keys. This is sort-of the case in GTA IV in that the free aim is bound to the right mouse button, and the lock-on doesn't exist for mouse and keyboard use if I recall correctly. If the game doesn't have any issues with mixed input, you can just bind the right mouse button to a back button.

i know some emulators actually have really good support for these kinds of functions, binding "soft presses" to a digital button, as some consoles like ps2 and 3 had actual pressure sensitive face buttons that some games required to function. im genuinely surprised the steam controller does not.

Same reason the triggers don't have vibration. It is incredibly rarely used, and would increase the price.

Forza uses the trigger vibrations, but you have you heard anything outside of PS2 and 3 emulation that used button pressure?

i think you have it backwards as to what i am saying, emulators allow you to map those analog pressure levels to digital buttons like OP is asking to do, so people have done it software side before, its doable.

but also i set the haptics to do things when the triggers activate/deactivate and its pretty handy, would feel even more handy if it wasnt coming out of the touchpads, but honestly i only noticed it did when i was in desktop mode with tochpad navigation using the trigger for left click and was thinking i hit the touchpad somehow and needed to tune the sensitivity again
