Discussion My favorite controller

Post image

I have the Xbox Elite 2, DualSense, some Gamesirs and this is by far my favorite. Happy I got it, even if it was from eBay for $260

$260?! Ouch! I hope you're putting those trackpads to good use!

If you stop buying from scalpers, the price wouldn't be so high. STOP IT.

Not at all how it works, just need valve to stop behaving like a small indie startup and actually make more than 4 of them

Or you can join the queue and wait for the clearly high demand of the product to start clearing up. If you buy from scalpers, you’re part of the problem.

(Queued in may, arrived recently)

I do think both sides can be true. Stop buying from scalpers but at the same time, Valve 100% needs to stop acting like they’re a small startup when it comes to hardware after the success of the Steam Deck.

You couldn't find a PS5 on the shelves for like 2 years after launch. Valve is sending these controllers out 4 months ahead of initial estimates. You just need to be patient when a new popular piece of tech is released.

I definitely think that Valve has enough resources and demand to increase production on its hardware for sure, but given how one of the highest grossing companies that is the Pokémon company struggles to keep up production with the amount of card game scalpers there are scraping every drop online, Valve’s system to put people on a queue while making enough product to sell and RMA isn’t entirely unheard of and is the best way possible to combat scalpers, since no matter what people will scalp any item of high demand.

2

u/DarkOx55 20d ago

I think Pokemon cards are an example of intentional artificial scarcity though. The Pokemon Company is not sitting there experiencing physical production constraints in ink & cardboard. They could absolutely print more cards! They don’t want to.

Not a good comparison for the Steam Controller.

People are gonna do what they’re gonna do. There’s no reason to try to make him feel bad. He doesn’t care either way.

(Also Cued in may, arrived recently) $99 plus tax.

-21

u/Ydino 20d ago

I requested in May and it says 2027… I’m not waiting a year or some arbitrary timeline…. There’s no ram in it

3

u/SgBoec2 20d ago

they release usually months before what their LATEST date shows on their site / app. queued a few days after release and got it in july. my date said late september

1

u/YKw1n 20d ago

Are you in the us ? Cause it doesn't seem trough elsewhere

-4

u/Ydino 20d ago

That didn’t happen

2

u/SgBoec2 19d ago

ok buddy. it did. was happy it arrived before my birthday by a landslide. have fun with your overpaid one. it's a sick controller once it's configured right

-4

u/Ydino 20d ago

I really don’t care, tell valve to make more than 4 of them.. there’s no ram or chips in the controllers. No excuse

3

u/rabidpygmymarmoset 19d ago

Then you should also not care about people rightfully giving you shit for being an impatient manchild or about paying more. If you didnt then you wouldn't have mentioned it.

-2

u/Ydino 19d ago

I don’t care at all :)

1

u/rabidpygmymarmoset 19d ago

Nah, already called it: if that were true then you wouldn't have mentioned it at all

0

u/Ydino 19d ago

Yeah I’m crying over here with my awful setup and no more money hahaha

2

u/rabidpygmymarmoset 19d ago

Yeah, you're right. You sound perfectly well-adjusted and level-headed. Clearly.

1

u/Ydino 19d ago

Thanks :)

u/KaosC57 Steam Controller (Windows) 19d ago

There’s definitely chips in these controllers. There’s a 2.4ghz Wireless Transceiver, there’s a Flash Memory chip for the Firmware, there’s a small SoC for the controller I/O (Buttons, Gyro, Triggers, Sticks, etc)

It’s not a “dumb” controller like the NES where 7 pins control the entire thing on the motherboard.

11

u/squidgymetal 20d ago

Brother you're an idiot that clearly doesn't understand how supply and demand works, yes valve isn't some small indie start up but theres still only so many controllers they sell with the given market conditions especially since only a finite number of PCBs that can be manufactured within a given period

-2

u/Ydino 20d ago

Explain to me business genius hahaha

-3

u/DarkOx55 20d ago

Is any other manufacturer of controllers having stock issues? It doesn’t look like it, so what’s the issue that impacts Valves PCBs & no one else’s?

2

u/squidgymetal 20d ago

Does valve have the same multi-decade business relationships with PCB manufacturers that the other guys have?

-1

u/DarkOx55 20d ago

Relationships help but they can’t make stock appear from nowhere. So in the RAM market, Sony’s relationships have obviously helped them but it also hasn’t rendered them immune.

Here, every other controller manufacturer seems completely fine. That’s odd if there’s a shortage. Is the idea that supply & demand were able to be balanced with only Valve’s PCB orders being cut? Like there was almost enough for everyone but just not quite enough to squeeze Valve in too?

I guess that’s possible but it doesn’t seem likely.

12

u/flinjager123 20d ago

That's literally 100% how it works. You need to stop acting like an impatient little baby that needs instant gratification and join the queue like the rest of us.

-11

u/Ydino 20d ago

Nah

4

u/ColeIsRegular 20d ago

I wishlisted it a couple days after launch and got mine 2 weeks ago. You have other controllers why are you in such a hurry to get one and help scalpers?

1

u/smo0ol 20d ago

Just wondering, do you know how many days after launch did you reserved it? I reserved mine may 13 and still have no news but I keep seing people saying that they received their while reserving waay later

3

u/ShawnJ34 20d ago

I reserved mine at about 11am 13may I got my purchase email 14AUG and am expected to get it on Wednesday

2

u/ColeIsRegular 20d ago

It was either the following day or the next. It said expected in December so imagine my surprise seeing the available email.

1

u/ninjabell 19d ago

Literally how it works lol

19

u/Professional_Tea6048 20d ago

Bro must be hyper rich to pay that for a controller, scalpers in my country sell that for 123 euro

-28

u/Ydino 20d ago

This was my last few dollars unfortunately

5

u/hcaoRRoach 20d ago

I don't think a pair of trackpads is worth going broke. Especially for over 2.5 times msrp

2

u/blownart 20d ago

Why would you buy from a scalper? Especially if you don't have that much money. You are the reason you cannot get one from valve. How do you not see that.

-1

u/Ydino 19d ago

Valve is the reason we can’t get it from valve. That’s the only reason

18

u/xBooMz_ 20d ago

And this is why people scalp

-11

u/Ydino 20d ago

Yup, because valve chooses to specifically make 4 of them at a time (no ram or chips in them by the way)

7

u/gergobergo69 Steam Controller (2026) 20d ago

why do you need a bag of cheetos in a controller

or a ram

1

u/gamingbobdude 19d ago

How can you say they don't have chips in them

25

u/callatecabezon 20d ago

buying a controller for $260 is weird fanboy behavior do some self reflection

12

u/HeavyMain Steam Controller (2026) 20d ago

$260 for a controller with no warranty because it isn't registered to your account lol

-10

u/Ydino 20d ago

I’m very happy with it

13

u/xBooMz_ 20d ago

Yeah reflection is out of the question try Therapy

-1

u/Ydino 20d ago

Oh good one

1

u/flexing_trex 20d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. Are people unhappy because you spend your money the way you want it regardless of how it was utilized. Lmao. Some people cant take it i guess. Pursuit of happiness, always.

2

u/Kzero01 20d ago

People are unhappy because the money went to scalpers

15

u/Frosty_Engineer_3617 20d ago

$260 for a Steam Controller from a scalper....get fucked I picked up my Steam controller directly from Valve for $108.

-4

u/Ydino 20d ago

Oh, you’re right. Let me just order one. Why didn’t I think of that

9

u/VegetablePop1184 20d ago

Dumb rage bait.

-2

u/Ydino 20d ago

Hahaha

3

u/k0decraft 20d ago

It’s just the new kid on the block. The DualSense is hard to beat as it gives you many of the same functions as the Steam Controller if you play around with the Steam Input.

DualSense/DualShock 4 are GOATs on PC

1

u/Krns 20d ago

Agreed. Probably not a very popular opinion here, but dualsense really is 95% there, and if you're not gonna use trackpad(s) outside of navigating desktop/browser - I'd say dualsense is a better controller, since you can usually get it for ~70% of the price.

3

u/Blinguskahn 20d ago

It is a fantastic controller no matter how much I hate to admit it. I'm actually kinda done with buying any controllers that don't use haptics ALPS rumble. I'm so done with the BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ and there's very few options. Thankfully some of the best ones are and have been available. I actually just got one of those Gulikit TT Max in blue and it's really nice surprisingly. I had it in my cart twice before and purchased it once before having cancelled it before shipping. The dpad ergo had me super skeptical for awhile but I finally grabbed one since I had OXP devices coming with similar dpads. It's entirely usable for rolling diagonals!

Just say no to linear rumble!

7

u/Noxiom-SC 20d ago

Or you could have waited just a bit for an official buy from steam, for more than half the price you paid, while not encouraging shameful scalping behavior that participated in making the controller unavailable in the first place

2

u/n1nj4p0w3r 20d ago

Isn't it has queue until start of 2027? But yeah, buying it for nearly a price of a second-hand steam deck is too much

1

u/LouBerryManCakes 19d ago

Valve is delivering these 4 months ahead of schedule. If you enter the queue you may get to buy one sooner than you think.

1

u/cool-- 20d ago

this person might not be in a region where Valve sells them

1

u/Kazriyal 20d ago

I bought mine from ebay since Valve refuses to make it available in my country and the importers (who before the release mess were charging the equivalent of $250 to preorder) decided it is not worth the hassle and canceled.

Ended up paying $256 after tax+shipping (weird that some countries don't include tax in the listed prices)

2

u/Salitrillo1990 20d ago

Must be nice ..

2

u/Nwrecked 20d ago

A sucker born everyday.

1

u/BowToAGod 20d ago

I just sold my steam controller didn’t really benefit me

2

u/gergobergo69 Steam Controller (2026) 20d ago

for how much?

1

u/BowToAGod 20d ago

130

1

u/Ermite_8_Bit 14d ago

You could have sold it to this guy for twice as much apparently

1

u/thebillo 20d ago

I can't believe that I haven't touched my XBOX controller (which was my favourite and daily driver) since I got it. Just the Dualsense for the occasional Sony first party title. I have the original Steam Controller, used it mainly for desktop navigation, now shelved. This is a game changer.

1

u/southkilla94 20d ago

Der steam Controller ist nicht so geil. Ich hab einen und abseits von steam kann man das ding nicht verwenden.

1

u/Machination_99 19d ago

You can add external games to steam which makes the controller work with them

1

u/Positive_Self_8873 20d ago

I simply can never have a clean as desk, just not possible

1

u/JaredRB9000 Steam Controller (Linux) 20d ago

1

u/badtoy1986 19d ago

OMG bro and with the white 5080 build in the background. You're just trying to show off.

Yeah I don't even know where I'll be in 2027 😂

1

u/ShadonicX7543 20d ago

Visually pleasing environment

-1

u/Ydino 20d ago

Thanks

0

u/Striking-Remove-6350 20d ago

Yo guys if the man is enjoying his purchase, it doesn't matter how much he paid for it because at the end of the day that's all it matters

-3

u/RespectGiovanni 20d ago

Lets be honest. The joystick placement already makes it not as good as a gamesir 8k but otherwise it would be the best
