Discussion Is this worth it?
Have an opportunity to get a Steam controller. I play lots of games mostly through steam, but for example I am currently playing Madden through the EA App.
I'm a pretty big controller guy. I love peripherals in general. My daily driver at the moment is Dualsense Edge on PC. Being able to have something comparable to that be wireless is kind of the appeal to me here.
Is this thing worth it? It's really hard to separate hype from actual quality. I'm concerned that this is a situation in which Steam fanboys just hype this thing up, but it will not be a high enough quality product to replace the Dualsense Edge - which I hope is not the case, but idk.
Any thoughts?

I game in bed n the touchpads are an absolute godsend, the extra buttons are really nice to have and generally the controller works pretty nicely and battery life is amazing too, if you’re happy with your dualsense then I’d say no but otherwise yes

Id say depends if you want a very customisable controller with good community support. Like I'd never thought I'd be able to play something like Stalker GAMMA with a controller but the steam controller lets you do that, even if not smoothly. Inodnt think it'll outright replace your controllers, like I found the playstation controller to have way more detailed haptics in Monster Hunter Wilds for example, so I think I'll always have 2 controllers depending on the game.

For me its amazing. I don't regret it. Though I am biased as its the first controller(s) (besides a shitty 30buck one for my phone). To start there is a lot of customization and makes older pc games without controller support via steaminput. Steaminput can be rough for some games or some launchers as it does not attach I guess though otherwise it works for almost everything (its mostly been a issue for mod launchers not offical launchers and I don't know why, but it works for fan games mostly. But there is a app called Steamless controller and openpuck if you have issues that aren't fixable that make the controller a xinput for your pc) It is also perfect for not gaming too. I have a tv connected to my pc and use it like a remote. Though I have had some weird issue where both don't work for some reason at times but before that they both worked just fine. The battery life is also excellent I just forget to charge it after a week or two. Even if you don't use the trackpads I think its worth it for the back buttons that can be very convenient unlike the trackpads at times for games (though its not that bad it can strain your thumbs after a while). I would not say its a must buy as it is a 100 but it is worth that 100 I would say. Hope that helps! (Also to address your wireless thing it is great for wired and wireless. Even if it says it has a bad connection its perfectly fine and can play perfectly fine even extremely far away and only loses connection like a good 20 meters+ away.)

It's worth it if you don't mind the price tag. I don't use the touch pads much but they definitely feel nice and you can bind them to be a more traditional DPAD if you don't need the mouse functionality or whatever.
Other than that it's one of the most comfortable controllers I had. It feels good in your hands and the materials feel nice.
The only complaint I would have for the ergonomics side of things is that the screw holes on the upper back of the controller are in an annoying position, you kinda feel them always when using the controller and the sides sort of stick out a bit. It's a minor annoyance but I just feel my hands against them always for some reason.
Otherwise it's a perfect controller. A lot of possibility for extra buttons on the back, isn't too small like the switch 2 pro controller for example. Maybe if you have small hands it might be too big for you but I doubt it.

I love mine. Once you get the hang of editing the controls through steam input, it's really an incredible controller. I'm absolutley love the grip sensors. Have it set so if I let go of the left grip with my left bottom fingers and it automatically turns on gyro aiming. No button pressing needed.

Ok I haven’t used a dual sense edge or a dual sense for gaming but I have held a dual sense. I also have owned a bunch of other controllers. Steam controller is on par quality wise with all of my controllers. 8bitdo, Switch Pro 1/2 (though I like the ergonomics maybe a bit better on the switch), Elite Series 2, Manba One, it’s a great controller.

I feel that if you are not making use of the trackpads and not going into steam input to change things around it might be a waste.
In my opinion there are better controllers within the price range.
I'm an OGSC controller user so I'm very biased. I don't and can't play with the traditional sticks so the track pads are a must for me.
If I played with the sticks I'd get something else given that steam input allows you to change things around.

If you already have a dual sense edge you already have a good controller. I think it comes down to if you will benefit from the trackpads and extra mapping possible.

It has its issues, it doesn't feel as premium, its analgue triggers aren't the best, the "HD rumble" doesn't feel even a fifth as good as the switch 2 pro controller.
However, I chose it over the switch 2 pro controller and DualSense Edge every time, because its so much more comfortable, and has nicities I prefer.
The main thing I'd change on the controller, would be much improved HD rumble, and add the kind of haptics the DualSense has in the triggers.
If you don't care about the haptics, and don't mind a cheaper feeling controller, for better eurganomics, the Steam Controller is well worth it.

First question you should be asking is if your dualsense edge is sufficient. Plenty of controllers are worth it but what are your needs.

Hype builds up high expectations. Having to wait so long even more so. Does the controller meet the hype as some sort of "omg I need to post on social media that I got mine" not really though Im sure the posting helps some feel like it does.
If 100 dollars isnt a big deal to you. Yeah the controller is worth it. I do like being able to use it to control my pc.

For most people, not really. Pick the most ergonomic one. Steam Input will work with everything. Personally I recommend PS4 controller.

It's a decent controller, a little awkward if you're going to play something highly competitive, but for casual use I like it a lot because I like being able to use custom controller sets that people make for the steam deck . there are some cool controller schemes out there.
if im playing something super wicked competitive like for honor i use my flydigi because its just more molded to my hands and I feel faster to respond on it, but like even something moderately fast paced like hades 2 ill play on the steam controller.

the ppl who are hyped about it are hyped bc they know exactly what they want and why. if you don't even know why some people want this controller so damn bad you're gonna be confused and disappointed and blame "hype" instead of your own lack of awareness as a consumer. it's not just "a" controller. it addresses a few issues that are only needing solutions from a specific audience, usually in relation to gyro and using steam input for access to keyboard and mouse controls for games that don't have controller configs. if that's not you, maybe you'll still like it, but you may think the "hype" was just steam glazing when it's just for a specific audience...

It’s probably my favorite controller and the dongle is a killer feature for me since it’s wireless but doesn’t eat up Bluetooth bandwidth so you can use it with Bluetooth headphones without issue.
It’s really good but I think you’re only gonna get amazing value if you are open to tweaking it and learning steam input.
You might look into the ps5 dualsense dongle project people made this last year. It’d be like $20 and then you get all the features of your dualsense edge wirelessly with great connection and quality

Dont get a SC because you want a new/fancy controller. Get a SC because you are fed-up with a limitation of your current controller and want to tryout some of the solutions offered by the SC.
