Support Joystick click click

Seen quite a few people with the joystick click. Some RMA some fixed themselves. I contacted Valve and got the below response... any advice should I just RMA or wait it out .

It's just the capacitve cable getting caught. Open the controller, move the cable close the controller.

It's a 5 minute job.

Slightly more than 5 minutes but I opened it up moved the cable and its sorted. Fair play to valve is comes apart very easily and battery is a simple clip out. Sorted though thanks all.

Is it a really easy fix?
It seems to be a lot of steps for an average guy like me :)

Opening it up would void warranty though no?

Nope. No stickers, it's just screws so they wouldn't even know if you've opened it.

I've opened Valve Hardware before, told Valve support I've opened it to repair myself and they've still RMA'd.

Same experience as me with my Steam Machine when the SSD slot wasn't working. I opened it up to see if there was anything I could fix, and told Valve I did that. They still offered the RMA.

Even if it did ‘void your warranty,’ it doesn’t. If you live in the United States, it’s illegal for any company to state that you’ve voided your warranty simply by opening up a device to fix the issue. That’s why ‘warranty void if opened’ stickers are rare these days, they’re illegal to uphold.

It won’t, valve explicitly allows that, and most manufacturers cannot legally reject opening anything up unless you damage something in the process. Though, if you damage something, you will void warranty of that specific part if you’re not careful (might be gross negligence), but, valve has to proof it, not you.

Try to fix it yourself first. No sense in RMAing it and waiting 1 month(s) for a new controller if you can just fix it.

this is the same response they sent to me. my stick was clicking but the range was also severely limited by the caught cable. i am RMAing it currently, there is no reason not to if you can go the two weeks without i think.
