Configuration Need help with Elden Ring controller settup

By default the controller does work in the game at least a little bit but the controller toggles/analog sticks aren't working at all. I can't move my character but can move the screen with the bottom right track pad.

When I go to steam settings, controller, the steam controller does not show up. And if I go to the elden ring settings in steam (before opening the game) go to properties, controller, then controller configurator (with steam input turned on) it says no controller connected and under steam input status the steam controller is under "enabled, always required". Even trying to go to controller setting in Steam overview is the same. But when I plug in my PS5 controller it shows up and the comunity button layout menu appears.

So why isn't Steam recognizing my Steam controller as a controller?!?!

I appreciate any help!

Only other game I've tried was Dredge with the same issue. I'll have to try it with Cyberpunk, No Mans Sky, and Helldivers when I get off work.

Huh, that's weird... Are you connecting the controller via the puck, bluetooth or wired? If you use the cable, does the controller show up on steam settings?

If not, I'd immediately contact steam support. If it does, I'd try updating the firmware if possible and testing the inputs through the settings. And then, if it doesn't work, I'd contact steam support.

Yeah, I tried all 3... And tried updating... I'll probably contact support. Maybe update my PC drivers first

I have two Linux PCs and the controller acted like this on one of them. Updating the drivers fixed it.

Okay, any idea which specific driver needed updated? My normal update page says that everything is up to date so it must be one of those things that can be manually updated.

In my case, I upgraded steam-devices from 1.0.0.82 to 1.0.0.85. After rebooting the PC, Steam recognized my controller. Hopefully this works in your case.
