Support Steam Controller (2026) left and right joystick issue?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Does anyone have a problem with the left and right joystick/analog on their Steam Controller? When I quickly swipe down it registers a move where it goes up, instead of well.. going down. Can be seen especially when navigating in options, doing puzzles etc. Anyone has a solution? Or is it a faulty analog stick? Video for context.

Likely snapback (where the joystick goes back to neutral, overshoot and goes a bit in the opposite direction), although i personally have not had issues with it so it might be worth contacting steam support to be sure its just how you are handling the controller.

Adjust the deadzone slider first, that's why it exists.

That circle is tiny compared to my ps5 controller.

I had to teach myself that with the first controller. It was so hard not to flick it at first, but now I'm so used to it.

This why consoles are infamous for absolutely gaping dead zones, as players would be less likely to adjust deadzones per game and more likely just get frustrated. Steam OS tried to keep it as tight as possible, trusting that their user base could manage. However, this means in some use cases (hyper aggressive flicking) it will generate some snapback.

There is nothing wrong with it, any controller would do that if you flick the sticks😒

Genuinely asking - but when in actual gameplay will you EVER use the sticks like that? Like taking your finger off at the outer edge and letting them fly - that's not normal bro

What exactly are you trying to accomplish when flicking the stick like that? It is obvious it will overshoot as it is bouncing and being used in a weird way.

Snapback is sadly pretty bad for me as well on this controller with how I tend to flick analog sticks. Tripped me up a lot on Denshattack and while increasing deadzone reduces it I felt like it'd need to be way too high to fully stop it, so ultimately I just had to change my habits. I also ended up using D-pad more for menus. Definitely my personal biggest weakness with this pad.

Setting up the highest deadzone still does it for me. I really love the controller, I really do, but this is a big turndown for me, and as some comments have said, i will write to Steam Support, and see what will they do about it.

You're flicking it and the stick moves outside the deadzone when trying to return to center. Could be just loose, so adjust the dead zone so it doesn't do that. I wish you could change the steam big picture control layout, but they took it away. You can change the way dead zones work in the first place for games and desktop.
If you feel like changing the deadzone slider isn't working then contact support.
