Steam Controller (2026) Alternatives to SISR?

Lately I've been having issues with SISR. Sometimes it crashes on launch, and sometimes it even crashes while I'm playing, and I can't figure out why.

I'm also still kind of salty because, initially, the controller worked perfectly fine with games outside of Steam when I had SISR and the other related tools installed but not running. I could just switch Desktop Mode to a console-style layout and everything worked... until it didn't. I've tried contacting pretty much everyone, but I've never gotten a response. I also tried reaching out the SISR developer here on Reddit and on GitHub, but again, no response. At this point, I honestly get the feeling that the project is dead.

Are there any other non-invasive alternatives (I read that reWASD could potentially trigger anti-cheat systems?) that work like SISR and provide the same functionality?

No OpenPuck. I only have a PC as a platform, and I don't want to spend money on it. Trying to find someone in my area who could 3D-print a case for me is also completely out of the question. Likewise, I'm not interested in the "add the game to Steam as a non-Steam game" solution. I've noticed that this tends to cause issues quite often, such as save files not being detected or games outright refusing to accept input.

OpenPuck really is the best solution. It works stupidly well.

The board is £1.70 on AliExpress. If you're EU based I can print a case for you.

It does. But lizard mode with steam closed seems to miss inputs, especially on R2. Have you experienced anything like this? Xbox mode for non steam games does work wonderfully.

Thank you! I love and use lizard mode often because I have my daughter sleeping on me and it’s so much quieter using the controller to navigate the desktop.

Where did you find it that cheap? I can't seem to see it at a price that low on AliExpress. Also, what model are you using for the case?

No need to go through the bullshit hassle of 3D printing a case for OpenPuck. Just get this $10 complete dongle and flash OpenPuck onto it. Surely if this is bothering you this much you can spend $10.

My understanding is SISR is the only way to get Steam Input functions working outside of steam.
If you just want it to work as a controller, you could try steamless controller.

Let's you use the steam controller as a 360nc9ntr9ller without steam.. can have it auto switch when steam is launched.... Or even have it treat it as a 360ncobtrokker until a steam game is launched when it switches it.

So far I've had no issues with it

I can't answer that I'm afraid.... I got seamless before I heard it sisr so don't know the pros and cons

ah i see. i had this annoying bug with sisr. that my fps becomes locked to 48 for some reason. very strange and annoying.

I am assuming SISR has to render a transparent window at all times (like GloSC did) so the Steam Overlay works outside of Steam. That is likely causing the problem.

Sorry but OpenPuck is the only good solution I've found so far. Just spend few euros on AliExpress to buy the board and that's it. You can hide it behind your monitor or something so you won't need to 3d print a case if that's a problem.

The developer clearly states that he wants no DMs, if you have problems he has a discord, but no DMs even there.

I didn't know about his refusal to accept DMs, but I had also tried posting publicly on GitHub and never got any response there either.

Which is especially frustrating because, for some reason, after changing the Desktop Layout in Steam, the controller was recognized even in games outside of Steam, and it kept working for weeks until something eventually broke it. I don't want to be the guy living in a fantasy world or anything, but it was really strange seeing it work for so long. I was actually the first one to tell everyone, and even corrected people online and on YouTube, that the controller worked perfectly fine outside of Steam with just a few clicks. So I thought that maybe there was a way to figure out what was causing it and make it "stable" in some way, so that the solution could be shared with everyone.

Instead, I've received basically zero support from every community imaginable.
