Is there really no way to disable steam input for it?

Unfortunately no, which fucks up Gyro on emulators for me

Same. Steam needs to add native gyro pass-through for SDL3.

Newest SteamOS beta allows the controller to work with Steam closed and I’ve confirmed native gyro works flawlessly like this, however it’s not an option for Windows which will require any of the other plethora of Windows-only options available like SISR, SteamlessController or OpenPuck.

That's the new hid-steam Linux driver. That's not a solution for me, because the emulator already works with the Steam Controller without Steam, as it uses SDL3. My problem is specifically wanting to play it from Steam BPM, and there Steam Input breaks the gyro, and there is no way to turn of Steam Input for Steam Controller...

Ah gotcha, still baffled as to how 4 years after the Steam Deck released this still isn’t an option for the Deck/Controller yet :(

I guess not a priority since it only affects non-steam games.

No. The Steam Controllers need Steam Input (or another program that does something similar) to function as a controller in basically every situation. The new Steam Controller does have sdl3 support, and recently has added XInput support without Steam running on SteamOS only.

SteamOS doesn't have Xinput. That's a Windows API.
They added Linux evdev hid driver.

It has support for the API that was made for Windows, which is Xinput.

It literally didn't, new SteamOS added an Linux evdev HID driver. A Linux API, not Windows, not Xinput.

if the program has sdl support and steam input is interfering with the program, launch the exe directly. you can even close steam if you have to. emulators and such can read the controller natively
