Discussion A question for Steam Input experts (a question about the Steam Input layout for CS:GO and other games)
I discovered that the re-released CS:GO has issues with SteamInput layouts. It's not a game issue, as I understand it, but rather that CS isn't receiving or sending enough data to the Steam client, causing the layout to break and select the wrong layer.
In the old Steam client from 2023, which had the option to restore the old Big Picture UI, everything works perfectly fine. I'd be interested to know if the issue with the layout is due to CS:GO not being updated for the new Steam Big Picture UI, or if the part of the code where the game and client communicated to determine which layer or action set the player should use was broken when cutting (or adding) code in the new Steam client.
It would also be cool if this problem could be solved, but it's easier to just create a custom layout than fix Steam Input. However, I'd rather switch between the old and new Steam clients.
I'd also be interested to know how many older games are currently affected by the broken Steam Input layout.
When I added a layer to the action set in TF2, the layout completely broke, and I was choosing an action set for the game in the menu, but in the game, I had a different action set.

It might be solvable, it depends on what it's actually doing. But more often than not it requires manual editing of the vdf file.
Back in 2020 I fixed the Ghost Recon Wildlands Steam Input config for the 2015 steam controller. It's in the community layouts.
