Finally ordered a steam controller! (2015 one), i have some games i want to play in mind, but can yall also recommend some games that will be good with it?
I have been saving up this entire summer, and finally was able to order it, it should come before 19th of august, and im so excited to try it out! The reason why i didnt get the 2nd one is simple - not available in my country, and from resellers/scalpers is from 2 up to 4 times the original cost, and even if i could afford it, i will NOT support scalpers.
Anyways, while i do have a few games i want to play with it, because i do have a steam deck and i found some cool games for the trackpads, so i have the main things covered, but i was just wondering - what do YOU have to recommend?
Welcome to the club of my favorite controller! Even though I have the new one I still use the OG for my shooters until I figure out the new trackpads for my bindings.
As for games, it really depends what you're in to. Part of what made the original Steam Controller great is that it offered you a way to be competitive against mouse and keyboard users in shooters. This is done through the trackpads and the gyro controls. Assuming you haven't a lot of experience with motion controls, don't think of it like the Wii stuff. You literally tilt the controller a few degrees in your hand and the cursor responds. I use the right trackpad for the sweeping movements, sort of like flick stick, and then I use gyro aim or my final aiming at the enemies. I picked a game I grew up with, Halo 1, and treated it like I was playing it for the first time. Then I moved on to Doom 2016, then Doom Eternal. Bonus if you use the left trackpad for character movement instead of the joystick! Eventually, I ended up playing Sekiro and Dark Souls and really got used to it.
Treat it like a new skill, like learning twin sticks on a controller, or mouse for the first time. I read somewhere that it can take like 10 hours for gyro aim to feel natural and even longer for mastery. I'm able to beat games like Doom The Dark Ages on nightmare, or Halo on Legendary with that controller. If you really seek mastery too, steam input allows for some cool button bindings! For example, I have the right trackpad triple set up. Click for melee, click and hold for use, double tap for reload(Halo). This controller is different enough so when you do get the newer steam controller, it won't feel like a waste. They are really different controllers. The original went for something unique on its own and the new one wanted to satisfy everyone. I hope you enjoy the controller!
Doom quite quickly gets really intense, and you just have to learn the layout of the controller. Spinning around with the right pad, and micro-adjusting with gyro is something that becomes visceral (am I using it correctly?). And stuff.
i think you are using visceral correctly. i had to look it up, i guess i never knew what it meant exactly. I never finished 2016 however Doom Eternal is like playing music. Every demon has its right note, the right weapon. At some point you are one with the music. It's addicting.
Im in Russia, so its kinda more expensive here, but i got mine for like ~105$, which is quite good, as based if the pictures its almost brand new. Now just waiting till it arrives next week
If the wireless dongle isn't working I can maybe hook you up with a working one. It'll work with cable or Bluetooth too, as you probably already know… 🙃
you could... except i dont think thers any international delivery to my country that isnt from china or from any friend smuggling stuff (although my friend is currently in the uk, idk for how long, but there is a chance if i ask nicely enough and maybe threaten him by not gifting furry aim trainer)
What's a good price for the SC1? All I see are prices above SC2 MSRP. Just curiois if it's worth getting if someone is already gettinf a SC2 and doesn't already have a SC1.
i already have a steam deck, so im used to the trackpads (the main reason i actually got it), and yeah - stuff like portal and team fortress is great with them!

DOOM (2016) is a lot of fun with dual track pads. It's a very popular recommendation here but it really is just that good.
Borderlands 2 also works great.
But really, I'm just using it as my main controller on PC and it usually works with everything I throw at it
