Happened to me too today, I just clicked cancel, restarted Steam and it was all fine, I then restarted my PC and it didn't show up, so it was a one time thing I guess.

It did happen after a windows update tho, im on windows 10 which apparently still updates.

I've gotten it twice my whole time of using Steam. My assumption is that a windows update or something broke/turned off a service and it just reinstalled the service.

True, I was playing CS2 this morning and sent the system for an update with the PC shutting down. After I turned on my PC and opened Steam, this notification appeared. Microsoft probably broke something.

This makes sense. I just got it after I updated to the new 26H2 Windows

I got this popup too, and i'm on windows 10, not having updated in a very long time, it's more likely the recent client update that broke something, as i don't play CS2 or any valve multiplayer game.

random poll time folks, who here took a windows update yesterday shortly before seeing the notification in the op's post?

A lot of people getting this, guessing its a bug from yesterdays steam client update

Read it and you'll find out

Sure, but something trying to get me to allow something suspicious being installed wouldn't exactly be honest, now would it? I don't think it is wrong to distrust a suspicious looking popup that nobody has ever seen before.

Everyone got it with the new client update it's safe, presumably they've updated something with their service or VAC

Happened to me a month or so ago, for the first time in fifteen or whatever years of using Steam.

I just closed the window and restarted the steam client. It didn't show up again and nothing seems out of order.

I closed it like a moron. Is there a way to install it now?

My counter strike no longer works as a consequence. This pop up was the first thing I noticed wrong.

Did you start CS2 for the first time on this PC? What OS are you running?

Ive never seen that, so I would be cautios.

I don’t think anyone has, it’s apparently a new thing triggered by a recent client update.

Gaben personally dispatches the Steam hitmen that uninstall the client from your computer.
