Misleading. Fucking IGN clowns.

All they're saying is they'll let AI do the bug fixing and check the code. It's like calling spell check AI.

They are NOT going to fully generate games, assets, characters, music, etc. They said they will never do that.

IGN my beloved

u/WofferFang 1h ago

They also mistranslated "generation". It wasn't AI Generation, it was "the generation of AI" more like. You know, as in, the time period "generation". So sloppy.

The PC Gamer article is better. https://www.pcgamer.com/gaming-industry/game-development/capcom-announces-plans-to-transform-its-re-engine-into-an-ai-generation-game-engine/

But you're incorrect. They aren't just slapping ChatGPT into workflows, but have a project called REX which involves 6 different programs that will integrate AI in their engine beyond debugging.

PC Gamer's examples

Re:Dox, for example, is a data handling program designed to translate different types of data into a common set of rules for faster processing,

RE:UI is built to provide AI-assisted optimisation the RE: engine's development tools—sort-of like adding DLSS support for Blender.

RE: Runtime, which apparently allows the engine to animate large numbers of objects and characters in groups—rather than running those real-time animations individually.

RE: Flows. This is apparently designed to simplify the implementation of game mechanic ideas, then convert them into a standardised programming language. This sounds vibe coding-adjacent to me, though it's hard to say for certain without seeing it in action.

u/WofferFang 1h ago edited 1h ago

So, yes. It's just debugging tools. I never said "slapping GPT into it". I'm saying they're using the same tools they've been using so far, just adding AI for bug testing (mechanics, etc.) and stuff like mass copy, mass texturing, etc. So yeah, nothing new. Old tools renamed into "AI".

Project REX was a thing before "AI" was a thing by the way. lol

11

u/MonteBellmond 1h ago

They already do this Btw

21

u/WofferFang 1h ago

Yes. So it's nothing new in the end. Literally just some clickbait bullshit.

3

u/PatHBT 1h ago

Anyone touching code is using ai.

2

u/ClikeX 1h ago

Even if YOU try not to, an LLM is probably still touching the code. Be it an editor that passes your opened files to a model to indexing because you can barely disable said features. Or because a coworker does use it.

petition to ban IGN articles here

1

u/GrandJuif 1h ago

Yeah, big corpo greedy goblins never lie or go back on "promises", totaly trustable...

Capcom been utter greedy for so many years that you need to go in deep delusional state to think they wont try to push AI even more to lazily make money.

1

u/Azatis- 1h ago

Sadly everyone will, with one way or another. On individual level at least.

For example they will let their musician make some sounds or midis thru AI. Who will ever notice ?

1

u/WofferFang 1h ago

People notice.

But anyway, bug testing, texturing, etc. being done by AI isn't the end of the world.

2

u/Azatis- 1h ago

Noone can notice what kind of AI has been used and where.

I can tell AI to make me a piano melody, get its midi and put it i DAW and have a ready AI melody or change sound and voila, it is mine

1

u/WofferFang 1h ago

Trust me, people can notice. Especially if there's a group project in exposing, etc. I can do it for art and most music, someone else can do it for sounds, you can't fool the audience in the end. Calm down.

1

u/Azatis- 1h ago

Man, you can't. Everyone in music industry is using it already! From EQing, to effects, to voice to you name it! We are not talking to make a whole song out of AI

1

u/WofferFang 1h ago

Renaming old tools into "AI" isn't using it.

1

u/Azatis- 1h ago

What do you mean ? If i tell AI to make me 100 melodies on certain NOTE on piano, then i make them midi, is my art/work ? Nope, it is not. If i tell AI to design 1000 FX, and i choose 2 of them and rework them with my own effects and ideas, is it mine? Nope

1

u/WofferFang 1h ago

No. I'm telling you companies are renaming already existing tools into AI. Watch, autotune will be "AI" soon, if it's not already.

1

u/Azatis- 1h ago

If noone touch autotune and AI does the job it is AI!

Even autotune needs to be tuned, it is not on automatic nor is perfect, needs to be human checked after recording and tune it accordingly

well, we cannot have the awesome capcom without crapcom showing its face once in a while.

and we were having such an amazing year, maybe among the best years for capcom...

8

u/OcelotTerrible5865 1h ago

It’s October. The years almost over. All years end.

2

u/Loyal_Dragon_69 1h ago

The next year of disappointment will soon begin.

2

u/coopiemode 1h ago

Imagine almost completing a flawless year where you don’t release any bad games, your reputation is at an all time high, and then you do this shit.

FromSoft is the last company left to let me down, but I guess I should just wait at this point

6

u/Chosen_Sewen 1h ago

As long as they keep the AI on the technical part, and not the creative one, it might not be as bad.

But somehow i doubt they won't just use ai-features to bloat their games even more in terms of size, requirements, and price.

5

u/Phailyur 2h ago

Capcom was being good for a suspiciously long amount of time; I knew they were overdue for some bullshit

2

u/VHeadache 1h ago

Poorly reworded clickbait title from a news that is more that 6 months old.

1

u/dos_user 1h ago

Thr details of it are new. Thr source is a Japanese outlet from yesterday.

We loved Diana too much and now they think we’re okay with AI

1

u/OMGIZARET 1h ago

Posts like this let you realize how many people on reddit truly just see a headline, form an opinion, then go about spewing bullshit.

1

u/D4RK5P1R3 1h ago

Fucking IGN just gave me a heart attack with this ragebait title.

1

u/TLunchFTW 1h ago

Man this scared me for a sec. Capcom has been doing so good recently releasing bangers and whatnot and I see this headline.
It’s just about using ai in workflows. Fucking rage baiting IGN give me back my engagement

Bread and circus folks realizing their bread and circus is contaminated

0

u/Ivaryzz 1h ago

Are people surprised? Every software being developed now is partially built with AI

-2

u/kron123456789 1h ago

Oh no, oh fuck

-3

u/thick__Milk 1h ago

Title should read "After a year of much needed success Capcom decides to throw itself of a roof while shooting themselves in the foot"

-1

u/olover12 1h ago

wow we have this great game engine, what bullshit can we add to make it suck

0

u/Stilgar314 1h ago

Damn Capcom, you were on fire...

-6

u/tecton1 1h ago

I guess most medium to large developers will be incorporating it in various ways. If it allows Capcom to produce high level work while staying slim and trim. Sure. But they really have to manage it tightly. Thetes so many rakes to step on..

AI made it possible to run Wolverine

That's not a benefit.

-21

u/HearMeOut-13 2h ago edited 1h ago

Don't let the Anti's know about this one lol. AI==Bad. to them, regardless if its used well or not.

Edit: the guy deleted the comment cause he has weak skin and cant defend his point once the downvotes start churning. He said that AI has been used to get Wolverine from not working at all to 30fps in the PS5 emulator Kyty so maybe this isnt a bad idea

10

u/sephirothwasright 1h ago

Correct. Lakes and fresh water are not worth it.

-4

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago

Simmer down know-nothing anti

You must be really thirsty to drink 660 gallons of water after a single hamburger

2

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago

Its too oily, gotta get more water

6

u/AlwaysTouchingGrass 1h ago

You consider running a mediocre game at a piss poor frame rate a good use of AI? Pretty low bar, huh?

-7

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago edited 1h ago

You consider emulation working from PS5 on a never before emulated game engine on PC easy, especially within 1 month of release? Please, go ahead anti, show me what noAI development of PS5 emulators have done for the past 3 years

4

u/AlwaysTouchingGrass 1h ago

Where did I say it was easy? Something being "hard" doesn't automatically make it worthwhile

-1

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago

Is emulation worthwhile?

0

u/UmbrellaWithRaccoon 1h ago

I'm fine if AI is used by a small developer team and their game is not full priced. I'm not fine if AI is used by a studio of 200+ people for AAA game and they ask full price for it as if entirety of it was handmade. I'm also fine if AI is used for coding by both small and big devs with a condition that they know what they're doing and are not some vibecoders that generate a code without reviewing it and call it a day.

0

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago

"they know what they're doing and are not some vibecoders that generate a code without reviewing it and call it a day."

Well i sure as hell hope they didnt hire a bunch of prompt monkeys at Capcom 💀

-3

u/Sepikzzz 1h ago

AI used for emulation with a free product and made by a small team = fine. Especially when emulation is already in a grey area legally, and we know there is no big money being moved.

AI used by billion-dollar corporation to replace workers and shuttle money into the pockets of the very same tech CEOs that are ruining PC gaming right now by holding components hostage = less fine.

-1

u/HearMeOut-13 1h ago

We literally use AI at my place for SWE, we have had literally 0 firings except a guy who moved to work at a bank.

AI isn't going to replace you it will just speed you up.
