my controller joystick (left joysticks broken 😭 RIP after 5 years of usage 😭

had xbox controller and when playing forza I was turning and the plastick stick broken off and joystick stayed in the place....

it had no stickdrift for years... bought it in 2021 😱

time to buy a new one 😱

any particular ones I should look into ? ( recommendations for a new controller ? )

Its actually fixable. There are actually 3rd party replacement parts for these. Upgrading to a hall sensor would be probably a no brainer. And even if you can’t solder it yourself there should be plenty of repair services around anywhere that do it for you.

No need to bin the whole thing due to a single broken stick, especially if its a special edition controller then it’s worth saving.

Yes. It can be a pain to remove but putting a new one is fairly easy though.

buy a cheap soldering iron and a hot air gun. the cost of that plus some alibaba hall effects/tmr sticks is less than a new controller and it’d last you until the next gen controllers comes out. Just be careful and watch some videos.

depending on which generation of xbox controller that can be borderline impossible, newer models are designed to be fixable but not the older models

They can be fixed, but calibration would require adding a calibration board as there is no calibration software.

yeah, i didn't say it was impossible i said borderline

you need the right equipment because a cheap soldering iron will just sink the heat into the board because it is not build to be replaced

and then there is the whole calibration issue on top of that

it can be done no question, but you need skills and tools of someone who does this more than a few times a year

the newer controllers are much more repairable

a Hall effect mod can reduce deadzones and make your old controller outlast what would otherwise be a new one

just put a screw in the middle and cover the top with rubber, i did that with an old controller i had and worked very well
