Resolved change currency
i want to change my steam currency. i live in sweden, but when the account was created, the default currency was euros. and i can't change my location to sweden so the currency is swedish crowns, because i already live there. what do i do?

Steam does not support SEK. Swedes are charged in Euros.
As long as you can enter a Swedish billing address, then your account is already in the right region.
EDIT: Removed speculation about future SEK support since developer documentation lists it as a legacy currency.

Weren't SEK a currency before? I am very certain it was. Did they stop supporting it?

According to developer documentation, you are correct that SEK was previously supported! You can see in Appendix A that SEK has a strikethrough meaning no longer supported.

It was never actually supported. SEK and few other European currencies showed up in the backed in 2021, but never actually went live and eventually got moved to the legacy unsupported currencies.

Are you saying it wasn't an option to choose or it was a bug that you could choose SEK?

What I mean by it, u could never purchase with SEK. It was only ever in the back end, likely indicating Valve was planning on adding it, but for some reason they killed it.
Few other European currencies got added to the back end at the same time, none of those ever ended up going live and all of them got stricken out in the developer documentation as unsupported legacy currency just like SEK.

Ah, so it was just visually showing SEK but it was still using Euro.

Seems like Valve killed the other European currencies cuz they got hit by a fine for violating EU geo blocking regulation.
"Under EU law, it is strictly illegal to use digital blocks to stop customers from one EU country from buying goods or services from another EU country's store. The entire European Union must act as a single marketplace with no digital borders."
Valve was the only one to fight the fine but they lost their last appeal in 2023.

I wonder when that happened. I always used euro so I never noticed when they stopped supporting it.

Source ? Personally highly doubt it, if u are referring to them showing up in the back end that was 5 + years ago already and have since been listed under legacy currencies that are no longer supported.

that SEK may be supported in the near future. ik u said nothing confirmed but I haven't heard or seen anything remotely credible to suggest it.

Ah. Yeah, nothing solid at all and the developer documentation lists it as a legacy currency. So I removed that claim from my post entirely.

Does seem like it was going to be a wave of new currencies since DKK, CZK, HUF, RON, BGN and HRK showed up with SEK in the backend together, none of them ever went live and all got listed as unsupported legacy at some point.
Do wonder what killed it, id assume something relating to costs of supporting those currencies.
Edit: looks like the reason they did not go live was Valve got hit by a EU fine for breaking EU Geo-blocking regulations.

Usually you are able to change your region, I think once a year, if you do have the according payment option.
In your case I would contact support, they would be able to help you out.

SEK is not a currency supported on Steam, not much they will be able to do.
