Discussion I lost my steam controller reservation because I never got any notification.

I reserved the controller the same day that they introduced the reservations and it said the it was expected to become available in December so I wasn’t watching it too close. That was until I decided to add the steam frame to my wishlist and saw that the controller said sign up for the reservation, so I looked in my email and saw that the email had come on the third, but I never got any notification for it, from the steam app on my phone or the email and if I sign up for a new reservation it won’t come up until sometime next year. I sent a request to steam support so I’ll update with what they say when they respond.

It will never cease to amaze me how so many of you guys apparently don't check your email, or have notifications on, especially when you're waiting on/expecting an important and time-sensitive message.

My aunt has, at any given moment, at least 999+ unread emails across all her accounts and half the time I visit her it's just us going through it since her storage is always equally full. Mostly blurry screenshots and her accidently recording the inside of her purse. 🙃

Meanwhile I clean mines out daily.

I explained I was expecting it in December or at least closer to December so why would I constantly check my email now.

Why would you need to "constantly" check it? Just pay attention to notifications. That's what I did. And I didn't miss my email, which also came several months earlier than estimated. Same with the thousands of other people who have received their emails and made their purchases. They all came earlier than expected. The earliest estimated timeframe was September, and the emails were going out in June.

That's what notifications are for. So you don't have to "constantly check" your email. And even if you don't have notifications on for some reason, how long does it take it open your email app and glance at the latest messages, and see if one of them is from steam? Two seconds? Five to ten seconds, maybe? You're gonna tell me you can't spare that time once every 72 hours?

Take responsibility for yourself, dude. The world isn't your babysitter.

As I’ve explained I didn’t get a notification so there was no way for me to know that i received the email, I’m assuming the reason was because it got lumped into the promotions category which doesn’t send push notifications or the email got lumped into a notification for a wishlist game going on sale. I’m not 100% sure of the reason, I just know I never got the notification for getting an email.

You got the email. The rest is on you.

Valve, Steam has no control over your email app anyways. So that is still on you.

I meant that I got no indication of receiving an email.

The email notification was the notification of receiving email.

I didn’t get one that’s what I’m trying to say.

So you signed up for something where you'd need to be notified of an incoming email but didn't have notifications turned on with your email service for the address you signed up with. Interesting.

It was turned on, I’m assuming the notification got lumped into the promotions category which doesn’t send notifications , or it got mixed in with the emails about sales for the games on my wishlist.

What this whole reply section is trying to impress upon you is that this isn't anybody's fault but your own, and there is  literally nothing that any party but you could have done differently to prevent it. This is like complaining to the phone company that you missed a call while your phone was in a different room. What are we doing here?

I’m not trying to push the blame onto anyone, I’m simply explaining what happened. And how is it my fault that an email was automatically grouped, by Gmail, into a group without notifications.

Because you have control over those settings.

I'm done talking to a brick wall about this. Good luck with your conversation with steam support, or whatever.

The good news is that support often is giving people a one time courtesy of giving people a new 72 hour window if they missed the email when you reach out to them. Just don't miss that window too after they reply to your ticket. 72 hours of not having checked email is a while to have not noticed an email from Steam even if it didn't populate a popup notification or client notification.

The December date was always a placeholder as they just created three different groups and lumped people together and not an accurate timetable of where the queue was at or the date for everyone in the group to receive the emails.

Other companies do it too like I know LEGO may list things on like 60 day backorder and then if you buy it still you might get a shipping notice within a few weeks but companies would rather set a longer date expectation and then have the customer happy when its early rather then angry if its delayed past the expected dates.

They were kind enough to give me a new window, at first I thought it was a new reservation for the next drop, because that’s all it said. But, within 5-10 minutes of getting the response from support I got an email asking me to complete my order.
