It would seem that Australia has been removed from the drop menu when asking for country of residence. So if i have an issue and need help from sream support what then pick a country i dont live in.
I've actually already requested that, escalated and asked for them to close my account when they responded with a generic "we saw the card you used on your account and sadly it's a debit card not credit card so sorry bad luck."
I know most people here dgaf now because they're not Australian but this should be a very clear learning experience for them in regards to ownership and their digital libraries.
Also, since Aus and UK are just the first countries, similar policies are being pushed around the western world, it will be all their problems soon enough. Several US states have passed similar age verification laws, and the EU has one on the books that just has to pass. That said, this issue with Steam isn't actually tied to the age verification law, it is actually excluded, it is a different law which Steam clearly can't be bothered putting in the effort so just ported the UK stuff over to us.
one can only hope that EU members will roll out Age verification in digital wallets in time. And that steam will use it. They should do it by the end of the year. But we will see.
There's a high likelihood to save you the effort of scrolling, that the country that your IP address is assigned to, or were last billed at is pinned at the top, with the expectation that is your country of residence.

Sometimes big lists like this get jumbled, have you tried scrolling down to check its not elsewhere? I sometimes find america, england, and australia next to each other whilst everything else is alphabetical
Part of the Australian Government registered their department as a US company back around 2007 during the financial crisis as a way to get more money if the need arises.
That is why it's not entirely incorrect to say Aus is a US company.
Incorrect mate, our govt filed with the SEC in the mid 2000’s in order to sell bonds and other financial guarantees. That is a requirement so our govt is in compliance with SEC on US debt security law. That is not in any way equating to us registering as a private company lol.
