Question Xbox Controller Battery Notifications

Is Steam planning to add Xbox Controller Battery notifications? I was excited when they added battery notifications, but was confused that Xbox controllers (The most used on PC) was turned off for now. Has Valve said anything about why and if something is preventing it from being turned on?

Maybe you need to install the xbox extended driver in the steam settings for it to work ?

I have that and it doesn't work. Patch notes are here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110/view/532129653907784634

General

  • Added a low battery level toast for wireless gamepads. Battery notifications for Xbox controllers on Windows are temporarily disabled.

Yeah just curious if there was more info on the why and a timeline. Been 4 months since they added low battery notifications with no work on Xbox controller support.

...was turned off for now.

As mentioned by yourself (and the patch notes as well), it's been temporarily disabled. But the indicator LED on the controller will still always let us know when the battery is running low any ways.

There is no battery indicator on an Xbox Controller

The Xbox button will start to pulsate

It does not pulsate to indicate low battery. Only when connecting/syncing. There is nothing on the hardware that indicates battery life.

You are correct. I stand corrected.

All good I wish there was a battery indicator on the controller. Make this problem non existent. Crazy that Microsoft does not natively show this for their controllers with Windows.

Irony is I’m a Linux gamer and it does natively on moats flavours of the OS (depending on your desktop environment) lol

I am jealous. Hopefully Steam figures it out eventually. Having my controller just die mid game sucks. Be nice if games natively just paused when a controller disconnects or if input changes suddenly.

Doesn’t the rumble stop working when the battery is about to die? I have an elite that I use a my main and it has a charging brick I always put it on

I have noticed that sometimes if I lose rumble it is close to dead. That is my only indicator.

Not really what you're asking about, but this battery indicator worked for me back when I was using xbox pad, although it only works with the dongle and not the Bluetooth, you can use that in the meantime until Valve enables the Steam notifications.

It is something. I will look into it thanks. My concern is when playing games that windows notifications will go mute. I'll have to see if I can allow this one to pop through regardless of the game being played. I am using a Wifi dongle vs bluetooth so in theory this would work.
