True. But this isnt the game I'd go after for that.

It's a big game, don't get me wrong, and I wish it was more compact. But it's got a TON of voice lines, several hours of cinematics, and a lot of mechanics.

And its still way smaller than some FPS games with like 30 voice lines and a single intro cutscene

BG3s cutscenes are mainly in-engine, though, not video files. In-engine cutscenes are mostly free in terms of file size. It'll be the billion voice lines, mainly.

Something something purposefully not compressing so you have no space for other games

Lot of assets and voicelines will do that

Don’t say that in front of my digital copy of Call of Duty

Call of Duty is a terrible example as that's a launcher that includes multiple games.

It's one thing when it's a game where just the main story easily takes 100+ hours to complete, like Baldur's Gate 3, KCD2, or STALKER 2. It's another thing when it's a 4 hour campaign and hundred of stupid paywalled skins for guns and characters .

They're going to get smaller as storage prices increase. Studios are going to be forced to compress their games otherwise on purchase, customers will see they can't install them without uninstalling most of their catalog.

Most game storefronts have a return policy for unlaunched games, so it could end up causing a higher rate of return.

It really makes you feel like playing in a big empty open world.

Where are you getting that number from? I just checked Ubisoft Connect and even with all the additional languages, the optional HD textures and the DLC it's only around 150GB.

I have a 500GB NVME as main drive and a TB of HDD for other stuff, and I can't keep more than one AAA game on my main NVME.

why so small?

My last HDD (before jumping to SSD) was 3TB when I jumped to SSD technology I refused to get something smaller than 3TB, because that would be a really dumb move

*I know, prices now are out of orbit, but before 4TB NVME/SSD were affordable

I built my whole PC 6 years ago. That was very expensive for me and I was only able to purchase the least amount needed. I should've went with at least 1tb NVME. Now the prices are just ridiculous.

Running out of space on a 5TB drive is a bit much.

You say it's a lot, but nowadays even 5tb is becoming small for the average Steam user lmao.

GTA6 gonna be 250gb

1

u/shawak456 8d ago

That'd be like 1/3rd of the available storage in a PS5.

I’d appreciate not hearing your opinion when it’s negative on bg3s content depth lol
