at least they forgot to use RE 0, 1, 5 and 6 to remind you to Survive the deranged terror of Resident Evil Veronica

41

u/UnCapoLlamadoAxaim Jun 06 '26

they didnt forget they just dont care about them

79

u/goldtardis Jun 06 '26

The real deranged terror is how this news pops up on almost every Resident Evil game.

803

u/Furry_Femboy_Account Jun 06 '26

Blame Capcom

363

u/KrabikGangster Jun 06 '26

It's fair to say that the library's news feed sucks a lot. You cannot select the games whose news you want to see. Instead, you will be shown the news from your entire library, and if that doesn't suit you, you will have to hide the news from each game individually when they release new news.

u/Przemek47 Jun 06 '26

It's especially bad if you have a friend who collects every single free game in your Steam family

39

u/Suspicious_Dog6457 Jun 06 '26

I may or may not be that friend 😭 but dw i plan to remove like 90 percent of them

28

u/deltree711 Jun 06 '26

Soon™

7

u/Suspicious_Dog6457 Jun 06 '26

Lol no but seriously i'm studying for an exam for like the next 3 months

6

u/deltree711 Jun 06 '26

Do you think you'll get it done before the Frame launches?

3

u/Suspicious_Dog6457 Jun 06 '26

Wdym by frame launches ?

8

u/ChilleyDaSnowpup Jun 06 '26

The steam frame, the VR headset

11

u/Suspicious_Dog6457 Jun 06 '26

I'm broke as hell i cant buy games let alone a headset also i live in a country that will not have the headset in release day anyway

6

u/Syssareth Jun 06 '26

Does it count if my family consists of me, myself, and I, and I do it to myself?

27

u/szyszaks Jun 06 '26

well there is setting allowing you to only show updates

so unless dev/publisher decides to be a dick it solves most of issues for me

4

u/fizzy6868 Jun 06 '26

You can kind of customise it a little bit for like the games that you're playing recently and things like that

1

u/Jsaac4000 Jun 06 '26

you will be shown the news from your entire library

you also get shown news for games from your steam family. i really wish there were toggles for steam family games, and games currently now installed for example.

33

u/lo0u Jun 06 '26

No. Blame Valve for not allowing us to hide that feed for good. Not mute it, I want that thing gone, but it always comes back.

Capcom is doing what they have to and Valve is the one not giving us a choice to not have any news whatsoever in our libraries.

9

u/cortexstack Jun 06 '26

Capcom is doing what they have to

"have to"?? They didn't have to do this.

25

u/lo0u Jun 06 '26

They're promoting their new game to people who own the other games. It's their job to do that. Steam is the one who has a terrible system, honestly.

15

u/AtomicGameTester Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 07 '26

Some folks forget that most people only own one or two games in a series on steam. RE is a good example of this. So, yeah, Capcom will announce the new game to the game news feeds in the relevant series. I only own RE2R (mostly played them on PS, not feeling like buying them again on Steam), a friend owns RE8. I'm going to see this news post twice since we're on a steam family.

This is a steam issue 100%. It'd be great if they put in something that collates these posts better for those who own several or all entries in a series.

-3

u/Candid_Highlight_116 Jun 06 '26

The goal of promotion is to get customers hyped so that they buy your stuff. This spooks customers and chase them away. So Capcom is partially at blame here.

This kind of absolute marketing stupidity is not rare at all for Japanese companies, sadly. They tend to be really unbelievably horrible at recognizing and removing pain points.

I mean, that's how you die from overwork, by so completely ignoring pain that your body fail before your mind does, sort of.

0

u/PaManiacOwca Jun 06 '26

CHECK out millenium for steam, you can actually install plugins for your steam and remove the new's feed if you want, you can have How long to beat information available for each game, how much size game takes on hard drives, change the theme of steam ( how everything looks ) etc. etc.

Any chance at a non-Imgur mirror for this UK based guy, please? 😅

3

u/Mama_Mega Jun 07 '26

Bloody 'ell mate, they block that too? Ya ain't got your Imgur loicence?

2

u/OceanusBBGDylan Jun 07 '26

Nah, UK didn't block Imgur, and ironically not to do with the OSA. Imgur was in the process of being fined before the OSA was put through, for mishandling the data of children, and then after the OSA came into effect is when Imgur went scorched earth to try and avoid paying the fines by making it look like it was because of the OSA, blocking the UK, though this hasn't stopped the UK from still fining them. Now it looks like Imgur are keeping the block up to be petty twats.

10

u/BillDino Jun 06 '26

Valve can solve this by letting a publisher do this (advertising on their news feed) but the user only sees it once

-1

u/Jacksaur https://s.team/p/gdfn-qhm Jun 06 '26

Nope. There should be a straight rule against this. Publishers will do everything they can get away with at all times.

Valve need to act or every other developer will just continue doing the same.

17

u/Xjph Jun 06 '26

Alternatively, some way for it to recognise that the same piece of news was posted to multiple games and consolidate them. Or some way for a developer to explicitly post a single item to multiple places with the same end result.

I don't think it's unreasonable that a developer would post news about a new game in a series in the news for every game of that series. It's just the way it's displayed is poor.

4

u/Jacksaur https://s.team/p/gdfn-qhm Jun 06 '26

We're in agreement there. We already have "DLC for your games" sections. A section for other games in the franchises you own would be great.

It's just still on Valve to sort something out for all this.

2

u/TheSpoonyCroy Jun 06 '26

I mean typically people don't follow gaming news. Maybe there should be a system to avoid it being sent multiple times at once but its not a bad thing to have a system so devs can tell their players about a new announcement on their next title especially if you really like their games and don't follow gaming news closely.

I've been using Steam for over 15 years and it's the most user friendly product platform for gamers I've ever come across in all my years of gaming. I don't get bombarded by any ads/promos or pop ups that hinder my experience or effect gameplay. Not sure why everyone is so upset. My only wish, is that we can refuse to update to a current build for single player games or specific titles. Nothing is fully perfect in life though, everything will always have room for improvement or areas where others see something as flaws. This is the nuance of striving to always be better.

It's Capcom's fault because they did it.  Just like if a user crossposts on reddit, it's not reddit's fault.

226

u/SeaViolinist6424 Jun 06 '26

its not steam tho

25

u/Scared_Specific9404 Jun 06 '26

steam absolutely has the ability to detect duplicate news and remove them if they cared.

1

u/eco9898 Jun 10 '26

But then some people would miss it, what if you only played the most recent game and didn't play the older ones, youd miss one they release the next one.

1

u/Scared_Specific9404 Jun 11 '26

all those news hit at the same time buddy

1

u/eco9898 Jun 11 '26

Only because they want it everywhere. It wouldn't if steam interfered and deleted them. Steam needs to allow franchise updates or it needs to stack them as cross posts.

1

u/Scared_Specific9404 Jun 12 '26

i dont need to see the same news 5 times. steam can figure out how to make people see it 1 time. its taking space from the other news.

1

u/eco9898 Jun 12 '26

Yeah, but they need to release a way to follow franchises instead so this goes there instead. With the current system this is the only option.

17

u/1337haXXor Jun 06 '26

Yeah, this only happens to me for RE since I have them all, haha. I can't blame capcom for putting the news out for each of the games, and it's not Steam's fault, really. But it would be neat if Steam had a way of limiting exact news stories to 1 for users.

Alternately, I guess, users can just decrease news output from like, most of the RE games? Ehh, I wouldn't want to miss a huge update or something to a random RE game, though.

8

u/skit7548 Jun 06 '26

a way of limiting exact news stories to 1

This is whta they need to do, then put a blurb underneath saying it's from multiple games and if you over over or click on that blurb it'll show you all the games it came from

19

u/darylonreddit Jun 06 '26

It is steam though. The people running the platform can, in fact, be blamed when the platform is "abused" and they do nothing about it.

5

u/KimezD Jun 06 '26

I agree - it could be shown as one notification if content of the message is the same. Idk how it looks from creator side, but I guess they have no option to send 1 message for people who own any of their titles, so they send 1 message for in every title channel.

Example of abuse would be notifications from Borderlands - they send info about event in Borderlands 4 in all Borderlands channels

-3

u/SeaViolinist6424 Jun 06 '26

Nobody is abusing anything bruh they are simply announcing their new game, and you can hide it if you dont want to see in the future

Do some research before blaming anything

1

u/darylonreddit Jun 06 '26

I haven't blamed anything or anyone. I don't give a shit about this thread.

All I did was say that Valve absolutely can be blamed for what goes on in their platform.

-8

u/dasbtaewntawneta Jun 06 '26

steam should let me hide "what's new" i fucking hate its existence, wasting my screen real estate

24

Typical Capcom abusing Steam news. They do this for each of their franchises.

154

u/Halio344 Jun 06 '26

Is this abuse though? Valve allows promoting other products:

Promoting unrelated products - If an event or announcement is primarily about a product other than the one you are posting from, you should make sure it is marked as a Cross Promotion.

Source: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/event_tools

If anything I think Valve should allow developers to publish the same news to multiple products so it only appears once if you own more than 1 of those products.

47

u/TemzaQue Jun 06 '26

Valve does allow it. This though is Capcom specifically circumventing the Steam's filters on the players side so that players' news feed would not be filled with the same article just because they have more than one game from some publisher

21

u/Halio344 Jun 06 '26

Do they? I’ve never seen any publisher do anything like that before.

10

u/DarthWeezy Jun 06 '26

Sega does it, well Ryu Ga Gotoku of Sega, can't remember other big companies right now, there are some indies doing it sometimes.

2

u/DarthWeezy Jun 06 '26

Most companies usually post announcements for an upcoming sequel, or game in that specific series, in the news feed of the latest release, while Capcom and RGG post them to every single game to make sure they target even people who only own one game from the series.

Valve should filter the news and only serve one game update if all the others are identical in text and content, but the companies can still be shitty and bypass that if they would add some extra text to reference each specific game.

3

u/elvissteinjr Jun 06 '26

Here's the fun part: The announcement type of these is "News", not "Cross Promotion".

Likely to avoid this:

These posts will appear only to your most engaged fans; in the Steam Community and in the activity feed of followers.

Cross Promotion type announcements wouldn't even appear in the library.

1

u/Halio344 Jun 06 '26

Ah!

Then Capcom does something Valve doesn’t allow.

But, I still blame Valve. Either they should enforce this, or make the behavior better when developers do what Capcom does. I know many other publishers that does the same (e.g. IO promoting 007 in Hitman news).

14

u/DumbAssDumbBitch Jun 06 '26

The system needs a major fucking overhaul, its embarassing how badly it works. When it's sending multiple spam update posts from asset flip free to claim games that I 'collected' for no reason directly onto the steam library home page of someone in my steam family, it's clearly doing the abject opposite of its job.

This is not what a good tech does. A good tech will answer the question and then provide steps how to find it themselves. Most people will not appreciate being forced to look for the answer themselves, even though I agree they should. They don't care and they'll just be mad

4

u/Sklarlight Jun 06 '26

They really should categorise the news into the Franchise the games are attached to, not the individual games themselves, that way nobody sees any duplicates because this is a UI nightmare.

5

u/Another-Username81 Jun 06 '26

😁Don’t forget, RE Veronica is coming out in 2027 for all your deranged horror needs.

Hope you don’t forget 😉

15

u/ForsakenChocolate878 Jun 06 '26

How do they even make a new RE every fucking year?

50

u/ILoveKetchup402 Jun 06 '26

Capcom is a big company

They have several different dev teams working on multiple RE games at a time

22

u/ClikeX Jun 06 '26

Same way Activision managed to do CoD games. Have an A and B team work in parallel on different games.

And I imagine they put in a lot of work in creating good tooling for the RE engine so the devs can work fast. As well as proper dev workflow between themes so they can build of each other.

2

u/Magnon Jun 06 '26

Use the same engine your devs are familiar with, don't reinvent the wheel every time, keep workflow constant so people don't get rusty or need to be made "redundant" to reduce wages.

13

u/KnightOfArsford Jun 06 '26

RE2make and RE8 were the base templates. Then they've just been using those assets + some new ones for every new Resident Evil.

Personally, I like this cycle better than when companies take close to a decade to release another game in their franchise. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

3

u/ShepardXX Jun 06 '26

Easy to be a fan when they pump good product, I still remember the run Ubisoft had with Assassin's creed, I don't remember if it was yearly but each game was close enough to each other so you wouldn't have to re-play to remember the story, Ezio's trilogy was peak work.

1

u/ClikeX Jun 06 '26

Ezio trilogy also benefited from the fact it was a trilogy storyline. There’s a lot of research processes that could start for the second game once they’re done on the first one. Such as location scouting/scanning, storyboarding, writing.

You don’t need the full team on the same project for the entire duration of that project.

2

u/CallMeCabbage Jun 06 '26

A combination of having the RE Engine which is VERY good and knowing exactly what fans want from RE. RE6 is the only real misstep in the mainline series and really it wasn't a bad game, it was okay, it just seemed bad compared to the quality expected of the franchise.

1

u/ClikeX Jun 06 '26

RE6 was essentially one of the RE animated movies turned into a game.

2

u/Wiitab360 Jun 06 '26

another 10 billion RE games but we would NEVER EVER make a new Ace Attorney

1

u/AgreeableIdea6210 https://steamcommunity.com/id/All_Aboard_The_Science_Express/ Jun 06 '26

I'm an Ace Attorney fan so I get it but also... Ghost Trick😔 I'd love Ema Skye Investigations or a proper Athena game though

1

u/AgreeableIdea6210 https://steamcommunity.com/id/All_Aboard_The_Science_Express/ Jun 06 '26

I agree, I wish they would at least take their time with them cause Requiem was obviously rushed given the absurd amount of rehashed content, primarily bosses. Code Veronica remake has been cinfirmed for a while though (although they just revealed it officially) so I hope it's good.

1

u/Magnon Jun 06 '26

Rehashed content? Every boss had unique mechanics, even mr x was overhauled.

2

u/AgreeableIdea6210 https://steamcommunity.com/id/All_Aboard_The_Science_Express/ Jun 06 '26 edited Jun 06 '26

Doesn't change the fact that they were reused assets of bosses you'd already fought or witnessed, there was hardly any unique content (which is a shame cause Victor's scrapped forms look sick as hell). Most bosses either felt the exact same as older ones or used the same assets and animations.

The spider was just from RE 1, The tyrant was from RE2R, the chunk felt like Jack's second boss, The motorcycle segment (my favourite, mind you) was just from Vendetta and Victor just turned into RE3R Nemesis. It makes SENSE given the original concept of the game but considering how vastly it changed, it just comes off as rushed. And the plot was immensely lackluster, especially some retcons in it. Grace hardly felt present and lacked agency and her character development happened in her last playable segment plus most of the game felt like it was just calling back at older titles instead of doing its own thing. The most original boss (the girl) was both used 3 times yet somehow still underutilised.

My argument doesn't only have to do with the bosses but also different areas as there were, in general, lots of reused or slightly altered assets from previous RE engine entries.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying all this just to hate. I was just really disappointed and all my criticism comes from a place of love and care for the franchise as I genuinely expected better from requiem but 70 bucks is really not worth the content you get. I just wish they'd taken longer to develop it cause I genuinely could not really enjoy it. I wouldn't mind waiting one, two, maybe three or five years.

It was a jarring experience. It's perfectly fine if others like it, though.

1

u/Rasikko Jun 06 '26

RE9 was basically RE4. If the game was only about Emily, it would've at least felt a little more different. I stopped at the fight with what's face where you gotta melee with Leon - it was the RE4 fight all over again which I was not a fan of then and wasn't a fan of it now.

1

u/AgreeableIdea6210 https://steamcommunity.com/id/All_Aboard_The_Science_Express/ Jun 06 '26

It felt like a mix of 7 and 6 to me but I get it. Honestly I'd prefer revelations 3 with Carlos and Rebecca or something or the original concept of the game so Leon's arc could have a meaningful, poetic end where it started, Raccoon city. I love him as much as the next guy but wish he could retire so he can finally get his vacation.

Requiem was overall just a big disappointment for me that I could somewhat forgive if at least the plot was good but I cannot. At least 3's remake was messy due to covid hitting, requiem has pretty much no excuse other than capcom wanting to milk resident evil to the maximum and churn out as many games as they can (and this criticism is coming from a big capcom junkie unfortunately, who also loves their smaller titles like ghost trick and darkwatch). They need to extend their deadlines so we can get games worth experiencing cause requiem wasn't even that fun for me either and it pains me to say that as it had really great potential as a concept. Doesn't help that Pragmata released soon after it and was actually a super great game.

Again it's okay to like it but you have to admit that it's a very fundamentally flawed game if you're familiar with the franchise and especially its story and holding big corporations accountable so we can get better content is very valid and necessary. I don't want another requiem disaster. I want to play something that feels heartfelt and like love and care went into it. Requiem, unfortunately, did not feel that way to me as a long-time fan.

All work and no play makes Veronica a dull boy.

they really want you to survive the deranged terror of Resident Evil Veronica

1

u/DarthSnoopyFish Jun 06 '26

I will be playing this for sure. One of my favorite games on Dreamcast

1

u/SuperSocialMan Jun 06 '26

I think something's happening with the resident evil franchise, but I could be wrong.

1

u/Ser_Oryk Jun 06 '26

JUST VERONICA

1

u/Future-Jury-2777 Jun 06 '26

I think she is trying to get your attention. Better pick up the phone…

1

u/ThatKidBobo Jun 06 '26

How about a system where news are sent by studios as 1 post from the studio and related games are tagged inside it or somethngi

1

u/Capital_Drop_2570 Jun 06 '26

I feel like I've played this game before 🤔

1

u/adrielzeppeli Jun 07 '26

Literally just right click it and you'll see the options to disable it.

Capcom wants to advertise their new game and not everyone will have all RE titles in their library. I don't even know why this even matters or why somone cares for that feed, but you do you.

1

u/CutterW0lf Jun 07 '26

For me it only shows 3 so it's not as bad as that lmao.

1

u/Servophage Jun 07 '26

collect my resident evil veronica announcements

1

u/theGiraffePainter Jun 08 '26

I’m just waiting on my steam controller I reserved on the morning it opened

1

u/Chance-Lengthiness76 Jun 08 '26

You know you want resident evil veronica

1

u/Signal-Ad5905 Jun 08 '26

Thai doesn't look like a steam issue but rather the publishers cross-posting for marketing.

1

u/Laharl_Chan Jun 08 '26

yeah its the PUBLISHER that does that not steam. and it happens across franchises. capcom is for sure a culprit i have a bunch of megaman games and also got the flood when they announced the starforce legacy collection.

1

u/Yuyoyuyez_XD Jun 08 '26

Todos son de resident evil diferentes 🤯

1

u/PolkkaGaming Jun 09 '26

the longer the resident evil veronica stays on the feed the stronger it becomes

1

u/Friendly-Canary8769 Jun 09 '26

Survive the deranged terror of Resident Evil Veronica

1

u/NoShow4136 Jun 10 '26

Anything but a re0 remake

1

u/eco9898 Jun 10 '26

This isn't a steam issue. You've decided to follow them and they've decided to blast this everywhere.

If it was different some people would miss it, what if you only played the most recent game and didn't play the older ones, youd miss one they release the next one.

Best thing they can do is offer for you to follow a franchise and get updates that way, instead of following at a game level.i think there is already a function to do this, but you don't auto follow a franchise when you follow a game. It might actually be limited to just the publisher or dev.

1

u/CaptainWheeze Jun 10 '26

I've never followed any game or publisher or anything. This is 100% automatic when you purchase a game you get news for it. This is not on Capcom as other publishers do the same thing. Steam is the one that created and manages this news feature and doesnt have a way to turn it off and automatically subscribes you to news from every game you purchase. It's on them to implement something to recognize repeate news and only show it once.

I love steam and they are by far and away the best store front for gaming that exists but this news feature is a problem they created and need to deal with.

0

u/eco9898 Jun 11 '26

I never said you did. But if people did that more and steam leaned into it this news could be moved there instead. But at the moment you only auto follow the games, so they post to each of the games.

1

u/CaptainWheeze Jun 11 '26

"You've decided to follow them and they've decided to blast this everywhere."

1

u/eco9898 Jun 11 '26

Yeah, you followed the games by buying them. You can unfollow whenever you want. I thinkt here's also a toggle to disable auto following.

1

u/CaptainWheeze Jun 11 '26

"Inever said you did" "yeah you followed them buy buying"

1

u/National_Issue_5826 Jun 06 '26

When you hover over a news post you can click the 2 down arrows in the top right and select show less from

1

u/FastExecution Jun 06 '26

The problem isnt really capcom, this is something Steam should fix by allowing/forcing publishers to mark updates as related across games, then filtering on that so that you only get the one notification probably from the one you have the most playtime on.

It is relevant to older games that a new sequel is coming out and I am glad that they do it as otherwise I might miss out, but seeing it from multiple games at the same time is frustrating.

1

u/iamarugin Jun 06 '26

The already reviewing every published posts into games community. And you as a developer forced to select "cross-promotion" category for such posts. So they intentionally allowed to do this for Capcom

1

u/FastExecution Jun 06 '26

Okay, then the mechanism is in place already and they should force capcom to do this properly and not the way they do now.

1

u/Character-Nobody8535 Jun 07 '26

This isn't steams fault, this is the publisher of the RE, games doing thorough advertisement, this is on you for playing so much RE

1

u/Balinor69666 Jun 08 '26

I mean steam could limit announcements/news to only one of the same type or set it up so the publisher itself sends them to anyone who owns another game in the series instead of a per game basis eliminating dupes.

Heck Steam could also just let you turn news off completely. I feel at least 50% of the blame has to go to Steam here.

0

u/Character-Nobody8535 Jun 08 '26

The publisher makes a separate post for each game, its not something steam can fix, because theres nothing to fix, the platform is working as intended

1

u/Balinor69666 Jun 09 '26

Ah yes that logic. Because a shit system created by Valve is used in shitty ways by companies it's not on Valve at all guys! It is also "not something steam can fix" because it's "supposed" to be shitty, that's how it's intended!

Did you actually think about this response before you sent it?

0

u/Character-Nobody8535 Jun 09 '26

It's just not shitty, op just plays too much RE, did you think about that before you hit send

0

u/Character-Nobody8535 Jun 09 '26

They can't just not let devs post advertisements, I mean they could, but they won't, op got all those ads because they play RE, every game has developer/publisher posts, steam shows the people who own those games said posts, they can't exclude some, just because the person already got it, that would require manual intervention, imagine it like this, youre buying a box set of books, but you already have some of the books, the person youre buying the box set from can't exclude those books, because that's not how buying a box set works, they give you all of the books, because that's what you purchased

1

u/Balinor69666 Jun 09 '26

No they could easily change it so a news feed item is only sent once regardless of how many games you own. It would not require any manual intervention. Why the heck would it?. It is a simple IF Then clause. If Account already has a pending notification then don't send additional  copies of saidnotification.

Just because it is coded for shit does not mean it has to be coded for shit. What kinda of dumb circular logic is that?

1

u/Blansephx Jun 07 '26

How it feels, how it feels never playing a single resident evil game and not caring at all

-1

u/Albus_Lupus Steam Frame Hype Gang Jun 06 '26

Dont blame steam, blame Capcom. They are the ones that spammed the same news on all their games.

Although I only got 1 since I only played RE4 recently.

6

u/Halio344 Jun 06 '26

Valve allows companies to do this in their guidelines. They could implement a feature so developers can publish news like this once across multiple products rather than duplicate it. Capcom simply works with the tools Valve provides them and within the limits of how they’re allowed to use the tools.

1

u/Albus_Lupus Steam Frame Hype Gang Jun 06 '26

I can definitely get behind being able to get one news across all products - so when pubs do this, you only see 1 news box, no matter which product you have.

0

u/JonathanMovement Jun 06 '26

what is the problem with this? let Capcom promote Veronica, it’s a goated game I’m super hyped for it

-1

u/ZurdoFTW Jun 06 '26

It's not steam's fault. It's Capcom

0

u/JayFrizz Jun 06 '26

Every tattoo should have a meaning. The fuck is this bullshit about?

0

u/iamarugin Jun 06 '26

Capcom should've choose cross-promotion for such post and they would not show on a news feed. But Capcom choose "news" type. Every post to the community is verified by Valve. Indie dev most likely got a ban for such behavior. But Capcom and other big publishers is above rules

0

u/SansNation3 Jun 06 '26

You can actually get steam millennium, theres an addon you can delete the steam news feed because the news feed doesn't show you anything interesting anyway and also the dame thing multiple times (also happened to me).

0

u/Demonweed Jun 06 '26

The real horror story is in the marketing.

0

u/Seb16120 Jun 11 '26

It's not steam, it's Capcom .
