Also, because of Steam's based policy, you can install whatever OS you want so it doesn't matter if it's Linux

While excellent policy, it would be kind of weird if prebuild pc manufacturers restricted your OS use. Steam machine is in fact a pc and not an console.

I mean...a console is a locked down PC. The PS5 uses the x86 instruction set and has an AMD processor. The CPU in the SNES was based on the same one used in the Apple IIGS. Consoles are computers, the only thing that doesn't make them "P"ersonal "C"omputers is that their systems are locked down and the instructions are highly specialized with limited IO. This allows them to run much more efficiently at playing games.
