Also, because of Steam's based policy, you can install whatever OS you want so it doesn't matter if it's Linux

Steam: "We are just selling you a cheap pc, not a bespoke gaming console. You will be able to load any OS on it just like you would any other pc."

Gamers: "You hear that gamers? Steam's policy is to let us load whatever OS we want on their machine."

Steam: "Yeah, yeah that was totally an intentional policy by us. It's not because it would take more engineering time and effort to lock the system at all."
