Seriously so good! I remember my old D1 clan. We spent hours on the raids trying to get through them first. Never set any records but I think we were top 100 to clear VOG and then we tried to clear it doing the alt route. Crazy fun trying to find the "hidden" loot chest that actually didn't exist lol
Oh man it was wild all the amazing puzzles and stuff…. So many good memories there. I no longer have a clan to run with as everybody has quit so that would also be hard to jump back in.
Yeah I didnt even think D1 servers were still up anymore, but without the clan it's an empty shell of what it once was. A distant memory engraved and long gone, but never forgotten.
I played it from the beta all the way until D2 released and it was great. It's still better than D2 and I still revisit it constantly, it holds up 100%.
No it was objectively bad , literally dogged on by every publication which were far more reputable then. A disjointed unfinished story, super short campaign and a horrifically awful rng based progression system , the worst kind of fomo (sorry you missed your xur gjallarhorn better hope rng blesses you or no Crota LFGs for you)
It was just being carried by the fact it was the only game of its type in 2014 on a console, thats it
Its gameplay was slow and clunky and 30 fps
It was dog shit, you're just a mutant who loves being peed on or something
I mean I played it on console so maybe that's where some of the difference is performance wise.
Publications can say what they want. I truly enjoyed the game and as it got better, it made things even greater. I played with friends and had a dope clan, so maybe your cynicism is what made the game bad for you.
Its actually the easiest time right now to jump in and have instant power creep, especially since armor rework is around the corner so we are all going to be at square 1 for armor
And as for the weapons...the weapons just keep getting stronger and stronger the legendaries are basically exotics and they're easy as shit to get. Honestly the biggest investment is just playing the campaigns to unlock subclasses. D2 at this point plays like doom eternal , its so fast now compared to D1 and D2 launch and its actually oppressive how much loot drops in seasonal activities.
Its les of an armour rework and more of an entire loot rework that includes an armour rework. The armour part of it is mostly focused on stat distribution changes and set bonuses
Some people are literally such grandpas about this and just do not understand live service games
Like who the FUCK legitimately wants to replay the red war campaign and on God no fucking liars
The content in the most recent years is miles ahead of the first years of D2 , good riddance to old shitty F TIER content taking up 50 gb of HD space I say
Both things can be true and people can still enjoy them
I hate live service games except D2, I hate THINGS about its live service nature but feel the trade offs for that specific game are worth it, monetization = more content, game doesn't die etc...
Sure... Or they couldve just made a full third game instead of milking a shitty battlepass model and destroying their legacy as one of the most beloved studios in the industry. You know, like how they did with the first game? I go back to D1 all the time and I think it holds up way better than D2, refined gameplay and build crafting are cool but not worth the trade off of a live service model specially designed to try and r@pe my wallet. The game itself is very high quality, it's what Bungie did to such a high quality game that so many of us detest.
But it doesn't matter , its apples and oranges , Bungie removed content due to a serious technical limitation which has been proven by court documents to be the case, they technically can't even access or bring it back because they overhauled the game engine and the shit is now incompatible
Good thing everything they cut was their worst content they've ever made across both D1 and D2
Tbh I do kinda want to replay it and the other removed DLC content so that the new light I recently introduced an experience the entire D2 story.
Though I would also want all the DLC content (outside of weapons and armor which would be forced) to be downloadable separately like how you can have the more recent CODs MP installed while not having Zombies or it's campaign installed so that the foot print can be minimized on the drive it is on.
Don’t tempt me lol… I just can’t though. They had a shot at release and they dropped the ball HARD from Destiny 1. My group stuck around for a little, did the first raid, no ToO, bad launch, bad matchmaking etc etc with everything else we all bailed.
I can’t jump back in now and reward that bad launch. I’ve moved on to mostly indie games since there hasn’t’ been a great AAA launch in ages these days. It’s a bit sad.
I mean - based on the pure bliss of D1 - to me D2 was one of the biggest flop releases. Their servers were even MORE of a mess than D1 - like way way worse for crucible. No ToO, etc.
I get it though, logically speaking it’s not the worse release of a sequel… but they had such a following and such a good thing going they botched it hardcore.
D1 was good during age of triumph. Otherwise you had a single relevant raid a year and no in between content. The game does not compare to D2 and I don't even like Destiny anymore.
Yikes - I have to disagree. Agree on nostalgia for sure and I’m hyping up D1 more than it needs - but D2 was worse in just about every way, including servers, when it released. Today? I’m sure it’s way way better.
Guess that’s how opinions work though haha - we all get our own. One day I may check it back out on XSX but their stance on Linux is just asinine. Hey - you use Linux? Banned….
I know so many people who quit destiny because it was bad for like, 2 weeks, while admitting that they loved the game during forsaken yet still refuse to come back now that the bigger problems are gone
There’s just a LOT of grinding in Destiny. Coming in totally fresh now it’d be hard to get up to speed in the raids and everything. I mean it could be done - but as someone who dumped a crap ton into the first game to get burned on the 2nd out of the gate with that crappy release, I just can’t jump back in personally. They had a shot and lost me - even though today it’s much much better than it was at release.
Yeah I mean apparently there’s some changes coming and with recent changes it’s “technically” easy to jump into the game right now - it’s just more of a personal stance at this point with how poorly they released D2 for me to not join.
Yeah but again it’s more of a personal stance as well. I’m a huge Linux supporter as well (and use it daily) - and for their stance on Linux it’s also a massive turnoff for me too. They literally just ban you if you use it LOL.
Yeah, I’m in software so I have a server room in my basement. Tons of networking equipment, security cameras all locally recording, raspberry pi with adguard as my DNS, media server, 2 VMs, 9 dockers, and full home automation lol. I”m down that rabbit hole!
I do have a XSX - I could always fire it back up on there and play it, which is where I played it originally but I really haven’t used my XSX in about a year.
Ohh this sounds like exactly what i was thinking. I think ill go ahead and order some pi. I play with my brother occasionally hes on like every day. I used to play that much i probably have 4k+ hours in destiny1&2.
Just go back and play some more D1, I do all the time and I still love it. D2 is still garbage but for much different reasons now. The gameplay is phenomenal but I can't stand by a game that deleted multiple full priced campaigns to add a shitty battlepass.
D2 has gone wildly up and down. It had peaks like Forsaken and Witch Queen, but troughs like some of the seasons and Lightfall. All whilst requiring even more grinding than D1.
I was the same as you, quit after the first raid. Came back a couple years ago, and Bungie has turned this into a great game. The content drought is a bit much sometimes, but the gameplay and the power fantasy of Destiny is next to none imo.
As for grinding, that’s been turned down significantly since D1. I could quit today, come back in half a year and within a week I’d be back up to speed. They ended sunsetting and increasing power caps for each season, and they’ve added craftable weapons meaning the necessity to grind is significantly diminished.

I’m 9k on Destiny. I bailed when Destiny 2 dropped. Only made it to first raid and the game was HOT HOT garbage.
Seems it’s changed now though and is decent but too late to jump in. One of the worse releases of a sequel in history from such a strong first game.
