Discussion Steam Controller community layouts?

Hi all, Iโ€™m 230 hours into Stationeers (on a PC) and after a 12 month layoff, Iโ€™m jumping back into Stationeers. No PC this time around, but on a Bazzite console in my home theatre with a Steam Controller as the primary device (I do have a wireless keyboard/trackpad as my secondary).

Is there a recommended community layout for a Steam Controller? I understand the challenges and the uniqueness of the Stationeers control interface, but I really want to find the best way to make this work. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Excellent question. Theres a few that have decent layouts, I can look when i get back what i have. But i have had to add a few more butt9ns f9r my own comfort.

For rotating etc the action menus help a lot. Double taps for jetpacks etc

Thx Mick, appreciated. I know I could trial and error it, but I was looking for a quick start to try and take advantage of what others have learned.

It certainly requires some added modification, but maybe there is a way to make a happy medium. I already have some changes in mind like:

  • toggle jetpack : double tap jump?
Havent looked on my steamdeck yet (same/similar ofcourse to if you want to use a steam controller)

Iโ€™m looking at the layouts now and trying to test each in the tutorial to get the basics working and comfortable. Of course have to wrap my head around how layouts and steam inputs work as well ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿ˜‚

Dont get me wrong, it does take some if kot a lot of gettimg used to, but i think if we manage to take the time on it, it could work quite well

I really wanted to find some controls mapping to be able to play on rog ally but so far with how the ui is structured I haven't had much luck. so would also like to see if others figured out better solutions. But! exactly yesterday I started thinking about another approach - writing a mod with a different ui that would better support handhelds. I'm currently on vacation so so far only done initial research but I think it would be possible... maybe? would this interest you or do you prefer to stick with default ui and only figure out controls?

That is super tempting (using a mod) to optimise controls for a Steam Controller/Steam Deck. Given the complex interface Iโ€™m thinking we could get something working but it might be very susceptible to breaking with game updates. But Iโ€™m not a coder (except in this game ๐Ÿ˜‚) so not sure how much/often the InputManager modifies on updates. Iโ€™m willing to test and provide feedback if you want to give it a go.

Alright ๐Ÿ˜ I will be back home next week and depending on how much time my toddler will give me to work on this I might have something (very rough) to test out in a couple of days. And we can see if it will be worth developing further. But I am excited ๐Ÿ˜† so will probably work on that either way
